DFA responds to the WP article that speaks of the "narrow band of Democratic elites"...
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 07:10 PM by madfloridian
who supported Howard Dean, and which implies Dean is long gone and dead.

Good for you, Sheri Divers...way to speak out.

Governor Dean's Strategy Is Flourishing in the Democratic Party

The Washington Post is under the impression that Governor Dean's campaign failed

But what's left unsaid is the fact that the heart of Governor Dean's campaign -- which was to end the war in Iraq and the 50 State Strategy -- is now the core platform within the Democratic Party.
Due primarily to the work of Deaniacs like us who have blogged, contributed money, knocked on doors, made phone calls and attended campaign trainings like the one in Orange County, California this weekend -- the Governor and Democracy for America have changed the face of American politics. And this is a progressive political movement we can all be proud of.

That "narrow band of Democratic elites"

And more about that narrow band of elites who did not dry up and blow away.

More "Democratic elite"...the narrow band.

1. Media trying to divide. Pics of 10,000 plus in Bryant Park.
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 08:22 PM by madfloridian
The media is doing this to divide us. But I am glad to see Sheri speaking out on this.

We did not go away, Obama is not Dean, Dean is not dead yet...though they are giving it a heck of a try...and they are pitting us against each other.

Thanks to the brave person who recommended this....I intend to speak out when I see stuff like this going on. Glad to see Sheri is also.

Kick.

And Bryant Park, NY, 10,000 of those "narrow Democratic elites."

2. Here's the quote about the "narrow Democratic elites" who supported Dean....
which is total BS...the "elites" were most unhappy with him and despised us. This reporter is using the Bush tactic of calling others what they themselves are about.

The "elite" called us fringe.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/62

From the WP article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/16/AR2007071601831_pf.html

Obama campaign advisers -- many of them campaign veterans who watched Dean's slow rise and rapid descent at close range -- reject the comparison, arguing that their candidate and organization won't repeat the mistakes of the former Vermont governor.

But as Obama has shattered fundraising records over the past few months while continuing to trail Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) by double digits in polls, the challenge for the senator from Illinois has become clear: He must turn the intense devotion of his backers into a force that can win primaries, expanding his base of support beyond the narrow band of Democratic elites who backed Dean.

Our media is getting ridiculous and is totally out of touch with reality.

Articles like this are just as hurtful to Obama as they are to Dean and those who supported his campaign.

3. More about those "Democratic elites".....the turkey sandwich fundraiser that beat Cheney's amount.
From 2003

http://press.meetup.com/archives/000325.html

Mr. ALTER: No, for me, you know the thing that put it over the edge was that just last week, you had this astonishing example of what I call cyberstumping, where Howard Dean proved that he's really the first politician ever to be able to raise significant amounts of money on the Internet. Just to give you the latest example, Dick Cheney went and raised $300,000 at a $2,000-a-plate fund-raiser in South Carolina. So they put a picture last week of Howard Dean up on their Web site eating a $3-a-plate turkey sandwich, and they raised $500,000.

They had this picture up while donations poured in. Things changed. He lost but politics saw change.

I know several who have written Anne Cornblut to deny our eliteness. I think Obama supporters should write them to stop trying to be divisive by comparing candidates who are running to those who are not.

Dean raised over 800,000, perhaps a million in one day

4. Best evidence Dean's alive...
...is the way they go on him!
Of course, if a Dem President must be - and shall be - lobbies would prefer something different from internationalist Dean, and look with favour to some other candidate that can be more easily come to terms with.

Best evidence Dean is "alive and kicking" (to use a 80's song title which is dear to me) is the fact that Europe and progressives relate to him and that he cultivates relations with them.
Dean believes in people. When discussing the web he's always referring correctly to it as a community of people.

No sexy spots are needed in politics. Just in political circus, which is the basest level.

They'll never get rid of him: he's respected in the world.
Can other candidates state the same?

Ciao!

5. Hi, demoleft....
Thanks for the post. That was such a snide article in the Washington Post, saying exactly the opposite of what was real. I was glad DFA spoke up about it.

Yes, he does appear to be respected in the world. The sad part is that someone from Italy, you, was the only one to even post in my thread defending him from the Washington Post.

I hope you do get to see him in September.

6. I will see him, sure, provided he can come.
A very intense electoral period is breaking in the USA: september may be difficult for Dean to leave USA. Someone in the US Democratic staff that met Italians told October was good time.
And that would fit another great thing: October 14th the Democratic Party in Italy will be officially founded, with a leader and a leading group.
To have Dean the 14 October 2007 in Italy, at our founding congress, would be reaaally great!

Ciao!

7. Yes...but it's hard to know if it's the Repugs or Dems who are going after Dean...
Since we know Rahm Immanuel and the Rubin Wing of the Party have never liked him and can't wait to get him out and install another "Fundraiser" Gadabout in there.

Fundraiser gadabout...

I added some figures, but will post tomorrow when I find the page I want. I believe the DNC did very well, more than the other years...but the RNC of course beat them.

Just need a little more data.

8. Hi, Stogie...
http://yborcitystogie.blogspot.com/2007/07/narrow-band-of-democratic-elites-howard.html

Great picture. You have some really good ones of Dean. I keep track of your blog to see what's going with the right wing there that you keep track of for us so we don't have to.

:hi:
