Our Chimperor Is Fighting A 3.5% Pay Raise For Our Soldiers
What a pile of crap.

From the story:

Talk about lousy timing. With President Bush's popularity scraping bottom in opinion polls, with U.S. casualties rising in Iraq in a force surge that has stretched tours to 15 months, the Bush administration has said it "strongly opposes" key military pay and benefit gains tossed into the fiscal 2008 defense bill.

1. Now THIS is the type of item Dems should hammer on...
This is the sort of item that resonates with people. Every Dem that gets on TV should hammer this point home. In every interview, every Dem should work this item in. And that's the problem with Dems - they always miss these little gems out there.

8. But Bush isn't running in 2008.
Just quietly put the 3.5% increase in the bill and don't budge on the issue. If Bush wants to make a lot of noise about it or veto it because of this, then let him make an ass of himself.

Democrats should focus their media offensive on things that can be applied to the 2008 GOP Congressional and Presidential candidates. There's more than enough material to work with.

4. Simple economics.
Well, if the troops get more money, that'll mean less money for Halliburton & that ilk. C'mon now, what's more important?! :sarcasm:

Keep 'em poor and worried about making ends meet and you can keep 'em. Period.
