Why 17?

Why does Conyers supposedly need three more sponsors for HR 333? I don't get it.

The original reports, which seem to be getting embellished, didn't mention Cheney, didn't mention HR 333. Conyers supposedly told someone who told someone who reported that he needed 3 more congresspeople, and he'd run with impeachment.

Now it's being said here that Conyers said this on the air - not according to the original reports! It's being reported that he was talking about HR 333 - not according to the original reports!

But it just doesn't make any sense on the face of it. Why is he willing to pursue impeachment with 17 co-sponsors, but not 16?

I think something big got lost in translation here, and people will be quite disappointed when the real story comes out.

perhaps he's waiting for a particular 3 Congresspeople to come on board.

that would make a little more sense.

and perhaps his mentioning it a few days before Cindy Sheehan shows up at his office (tomorrow) puts a bit of pressure on the three holdouts.

Can the Speaker co-sign a bill? Could Nancy be one of the three?
