Those pesky Iranians are at it again. There's no limit to what they'll do. I commend Senator Lieberman (I-Assholeville) for his recent amendment to the Defense authorization bill. Lieberman, with the support of all republicans and most Democrats, was able to pass an amendment that called for a study to be done on Iran's interference in Iraq.
Who could deny that Iranian conduct has been shameful? They've been trying to supply the Iraqi army with weapons!!! How dare they ...

http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/07/26/2789/Iran offered weapons and training to the Iraqi army after accusing Washington of not supplying Baghdad with the equipment needed to defend itself.
The offer came from Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, following a landmark meeting with his US counterpart. The two envoys followed up with a second meeting in Baghdad on Tuesday.
This time around, the United States accused Iran of stepping up its alleged support of militia fighters in Iraq ...
Of course, the truth is, the US has stopped supplying arms to the Iraqi army.
Iraq’s ambassador to the United States Wednesday launched a withering attack on what he said was US slowness to provide basic weaponry to his country’s ill-equipped armed forces.
Samir Sumaidaie said the foot-dragging was inexplicable given President George W. Bush’s oft-stated desire for Iraqi forces to “stand up” and so allow US troops to withdraw from the frontlines. <skip>
(Tony Snow said): “We’re doing it as rapidly as we can. We understand the frustrations.
“These are matters that the president discusses regularly with the prime minister, and obviously are discussed on a regular basis with others.”
Now think about that ... is weapons production lagging behind in the US? That's not credible. Has bush run out of funds? That's not credible either. The Iraqi government has been paying for the weapons and the Congress has not restricted funding. So, it's pretty clear that this cutting off of weapons to the Iraqis is an intentional policy. The question is: WHY?
The Iraqi Parliament has only one piece of legislation on its agenda: the Iraqi Oil Law. No agreement has been reached and the Parliament is about to adjourn for their August recess. Is it just possible bush is giving Maliki and the Parliament an ultimatum? Is the strategy to cutoff Maliki's entire supply of weapons so that he and the Parliament will be under even more pressure to give bush's buddies in the oil industry a great big present?
No wonder the US doesn't want any "interference" from the Iranians. The allegations from the US were that the Iranians are arming the bad guys; the truth is the Iranians offered to arm the exact same Iraqi army the US has been arming. bush's new strategy is to scare the Iraqis into giving away their oil. It's blackmail plain and simple.
What clearer example could there be about bush's real motives in Iraq? He doesn't give a damn about the Iraqi people or the Iraqi government. All he cares about, all he's ever cared about, is Iraqi oil. Democrats should challenge the cutoff of weapons; they won't, of course. To their shame, they've had nothing to say about the Oil Law.
So, I say let's stand with our Democrats. It's time to put an end to Iranian interference in Iran. Who do they think they are helping the Iraqis obtain weapons??? We'll never get that Oil Law signed if this continues. Let's roll ... It's time to invade Iran!! No option should be "off the table!"
