Newt Gingrich
Do you think he'll run? I'm really hoping he will, considering that none of the gop candidates have really energized the base at all (besides the kkk ones like hunter, tancredo etc.)

1. I hope not.
Have you ever noticed how he'll just randomly say, "and this was common with Washington, Adams, and Lincoln," or something to that effect. And what he says usually not only isn't true, it's completely incoherent. Often, talking about civil liberities, war, or anything really, out of no where, he'll just randomly say "Lincoln, Washington" and then continue on with rest of his sentence.

Then people are like, wow he's such an intellectual, such a grasp of history.

2. I don't think he will
Newt is waiting for the nomination to come to him as opposed to going out and getting it for himself. He might at best be looking to position himself for a cabinet slot or perhaps a #2 poistion on someone's ticket, but I don't think he has the fire to get out and go for it himself now.

3. Unlikely
But not outside the realm of possibility.

However, in the polls that does include him, he pulls in sub-McCain numbers. He almost certainly has notice that, so I doubt he'll jump in the race.

5. Newt's smart but mercurial and full of dark mischief. I don't think
he has a Reaganesque bond with GOP heavy hitters or with the Republican base.

He's trying to claim the role inside the GOP that Mario Cuomo enjoys for us -- that of elder sage -- but many voters' memories are long and recall with disdain and horror Newt's days as Speaker of the House. It was a miserable, unAmerican performance.

Some college will offer him a plum spot and I think Newt will likely take it and step out of electoral politics.

I certainly don't want him anywhere near real power again.

6. Oh, when I saw a post about him ...
... I thought he'd gone and divorced another cancer patient. Turns out he's still around, offering his opinion, and actually being heard. He had some brilliant commentary over the weekend that started off with a false premise about the Iraqi people wanting us there and ended with blaming our defeat in Vietnam on a Democratic cut and run strategy. Brilliant!

And this just in, Bill Bennett is meeting exclusively the President this week for a few hours. I hope they discuss my idea about decreasing the amount of Iraqi insurgents by kicking pregnant Iraqi women in the stomach!

8. Newt has a trainload of baggage...he is unelectable w/the possible
exception of his district, and even they don't like him.

For a Historian, he's pretty pathetic, he gets names and dates correct 90% of the time, but he has nothing else to offer as far as substance. Just another dim bulb w/a degree.
