Goodbye.
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 02:20 AM by bling bling
I'm only saying it because if I don't say it I won't do it.

I think after this week something is trying to give me a message that I need to move on. I've been wanting unity here so that we can have normal discussions again instead of being all divided up and just bickering. But it's not up to me of course and I don't think it's really possible anyway. I'm just not good at the bickering stuff. I'm not good at written discussions, really. I don't think I communicate on paper very well what I think in my head and that's obviously a problem for this kind of an environment. So if there's anyone I've offended here I want to apologize. I may not have even meant to do it. Except for one person who said that "Obama is an embarrassment to me and my party" -- I am not apologizing to you, even if I did offend you. Just so that's clear. Because you suck.

Mostly I want to thank the DU mods for providing a place that's been a refuge for over 3 years from the dirty and slimy Republicans and the media that's in their pockets.

Like I said, I'm only posting this because it makes it final and I need that push in order to break myself of this habit. There's not going to be a swan song to accompany it or anything :)

So that's that. Whoever sees this, goodbye and good luck!

Go Democrats. Especially Obama!!

6. A-Schwarzennegger:
At the risk of sounding like I'm being too personal or that I'm trying to sound like I know you (I'm feeling paranoid right now after tonight), I'm going to just go ahead and tell you how much I have always thoroughly enjoyed your presence here. You have the wittiest sense of humor and I love that quality in people. I don't know if I have *ever* laughed as hard as I did when I read that thread by you about Oscar in the lounge. I stayed up all night on a work night reading that thing and I didn't regret it either when I was finished. I remember thinking: this guy ought to be writing humor for real and making money off of this kind of talent.

Anyway, no, it's not just because of that one raving idiot. I've been feeling frustrated lately and I think I've just been waiting for that final straw so that I could call it quits. And also, the truth is that I'm starting school for my masters degree in a few weeks and I really need to break away from here so that I can focus on that. This place really is addictive to me and especially when I'm procrastinating on doing something else I need to do. I've been thinking I needed to remove DU as an option or I'll never get anything done.

Take care.

12. I understand. I spend too much time here, too.
But I am too addicted to leave.
Come back and visit if the pubs start getting you down or during school breaks.

31. You too?
I take a few days off because things get hectic....my laptop craps out - well the AC adapter. I come back to catch up and find that once again I missed whatever big show was on stage.

Bling, I need a break from DU from time to time. Once I realized I am not a normal person because I am way toooo political, this place was a fit. Sometimes, though, even I overload and have to get away.....but not too far. I still watch Jon, Steven 'n Keith and listen to Hartmann in the morning and come here for LBN - which is still the best place on the internets to get news.

BB, you will be welcomed back w/ open arms and glad tidings when you do visit. It will feel good, too.

3. Later dude.
But there still is a lot of stuff to read on this website. Look at my post count its not that high for how long I have been here. I don't much care to chit chat with everyone but this place does help kill some time.

Good luck.

5. There is more to DU than bickering
between the followers of the candidates. We've been through this in 2004 and then came together.

I find in DU a lot more then just debating the merits of the candidates. With so many forums one can interact, ask, and contribute on so many subjects among Democrats. I don't even read the pro and con threads in their entirety. Often just the first post and perhaps a few replies and this is it.

I know that I will be happy with any of the candidates and I know that whoever wins the nomination will have the support of all - OK, most - of us.

But this is the place to find news and information and analysis not available anyplace else. This is the place to marvel at the untiring efforts of so many DUers who scan the literal wide world of the Internet to bring us news and information.

I hope that you will stay, that you will just take a breather, decide what really is important to you in the long run and come back and learn to pick and choose among the posts.

7. This is the second GBCW I have seen today....!
When the bickering gets to be too much, there's HIDE THREAD.

And of course, the sometimes-useful, asshole-obliterating IGNORE.

And if the slings and arrows are WAY out of line, there's always the ALERT of last resort.

Perhaps if you have an urge to return, you'll use these tools if it gets to be too contentious.

16. I miss all the precipitating stuff too...I'm like that schmuck with the broom following the elephant
I miss the parade, and only see the aftereffects!

But this is just a break for NOW, not a permanent GBCW....more like a SLFN--so long for now.

Hey, everyone needs a break every now and again!

11. Hey MADem
I know I've told you several times but I'll say it one last time:

:yourock:

You have definitely been one of my 3 top favorite posters to read here. I almost never read a post by you that doesn't make me smile because you're so spunky and right on.

It's not just the bickering. I need to quit here so I can concentrate on other things. I get too addicted and can't break away. That's why I did the goodbye post -- it will force me to just have this last thread and then move on.

At least for now.

13. Truthfully, as the election cycle heats up, the bickering will, as well.
People will be people, regardless of political affiliation. We have a quite wide spectrum of folks here. It is amazing to me, at times, that we manage to get along despite all the contention and out right antagonism. But, hey, we're democrats. That's pretty much what we do. Oddly enough, we seem to gain strength from our disagreements.

If you want an organized party...well, right now, they are not all that organized either. Too bad, so sad.

Keep in touch, girlfriend.

14. Stay out of GDP
And when you do come in here, use the ignore button freely. I got way over carried away in 2003, way worse than now. It's not worth it. Most of the people I fought with then are gone. A few have gone to other sites, but most are just flat gone. So if you like it here, don't let these other people run you off. If they weren't here last year, they probably won't be here next year either.

20. Please don't patronize us with your "bickering" complaints
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 07:15 AM by Jersey Devil
People who favor a certain candidate have strong opinions concerning issues that are vital to us and wish to discuss them, even argue their cause. That is healthy and what real politics is all about.

To call it "bickering" is condescension and dismissal, as though their discussions were meaningless and trite when they are not.

When the Senate debates pulling out of Iraq, or the discussion turns to health care, or they argue about whether the votes are properly counted or not, is it "bickering"?

Why would you leave now? And if you think it is only DU, go over to MYDD to read their BS on Obama's speech. You really need to develop a thick skin, and not take it so personally. Stick to reasoned arguments and facts (preferably with links), and ignore the a**holes. You're honing your skills right now. Because guess what? It's only going to get worse.

a place to be comforted by like minded people.
Best thing about democracy (and the worst) is the ability for all kinds of thoughts within
the same general desire to do things.
