When you have a long national nightmare like Bush the gifts...
just keep coming. Sort of like if you consider a package from the Unabomber a gift.

Here is the thing though. Bush is going to be as bad as ever as long as he's in office. And judging by the consistency in which congress caves in to the guy, expect more events like the FISA debacle, as opposed to impeachment or ending the Iraq War. We're in a bad spot, slightly better than we were before in some areas, but it's not going to get significantly better until this guy is out of office. It's been a sad, tragic 6 and a half years. We have about 1 and a half to go.

I just hope we can hold on.

And that the disaster left behind by this asshole can be salvaged.

1. afraid
I'm just afraid that recent events will embolden him; God forbid he should get his mojo back on.

4. we're stuck with the guy
I just don't see any way that the House will get the balls up to impeach both him and Cheney. They have some support for getting rid of Gonzo and Cheney, but with Cheney it's still a long shot. And even if Bush is impeached, the Senate, with those sixteen who rolled over on FISA, would never get rid of him. To remove a president you would need two-thirds of the Senate to vote him out. You'll never get 67 votes out of that crew.

About the best we can hope for is that the damage is held to a minimum until the next president comes in.

I doubt he'll get his full mojo, but as was proved with FISA, he can still pick his spots and do serious damage. Just depends on when and where Congress is willing to slow him down or stop him.

2. Salvaged?!!
Can the debacle and humanitarian crisis that is Iraq be salvaged?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6921623.stm

Can the terrible consequences of global warming be salvaged?

Can the struggles of the poor and working classes, made terrible
and unconscionable (per Barbara Ehrenreich), be salvaged?

Can the great loss of the Constitution and the rule of law be
salvaged?

Sue

3. In some ways, things are much better now
than they were before.

But to discuss this could expose (perceived; political) vulnerabilities/lines-of-attack that these fools, filled with hubris as they are, might not perceive.

...

We didn't get into this mess in a day, a month, or a year...
