Another Democratic senator from VA? GOP "gloomy" about John Warner likely retiring
What are the odds of Mark Warner running, considering the fact that he has a solid shot at the VP slot? Would he rather take a sure Senate seat or wait and hope he is tapped for the VP position, the best stepping stone to the presidency? I personally think he would be better off running for the Senate. There is only one VP spot and several great potential choices. Of course, if he waits and is not chosen to be VP he could always fall back on running for governor again in 2010--quite a consolation prize for not getting on the ticket.

Virginia GOP Sees Warner Stepping Down

"Gloomy top Republicans in Virginia are privately predicting that a man named 'Warner' will be elected to the Senate from their state next year, but add that he is likely to be a Democrat," according to Robert Novak.

"The state's GOP leaders not long ago were sure that 80-year-old Republican Sen. John Warner would seek a sixth term in 2008, but now they think he probably will not. That would open the door for Democratic former Gov. Mark Warner (no relation) to enter the race. Any Republican would be an underdog against the Democratic Warner."

"Rep. Tom Davis is the leading prospect if John Warner doesn't run, but conservatives are seeking somebody to oppose Davis' nomination."

1. Go for the Senate seat.
John Warner is my Senator and I cannot wait for the old bastard to step down. I thought they were going to have to carry him away in a coffin like Strom Thurmond. There is something like an 80% chance Mark can get the seat if he runs. I think he should do it so we can capture another seat. That would, at the very least (assuming we keep all our current seats and do not gain any others), make Lieberman irrelevant to our majority.

Democrats are so paranoid of deviating off the "my dear friend from ______" nonsensical pathway while the Republicans are thinking up new and improved ways of raping America.

Enough.
