Consider me officially against Heath Shuler (NC11) in 2008
Note: This was originally posted in NC state group, which nobody seems to read...

Heath Shuler, be on notice: You voted against the Constitution when you voted in favor of Bush's FISA changes. For this, I consider you a Republican; you have become my political enemy in the 2008 NC11 House campaign.

I will call Heath Shuler's office first thing in the morning and let him know that I will no longer:

- Send money
- Phone bank
- Knock on doors
- Put up signs
- Carry his bumper stickers

Here is what I will do:

- Create Democratic-based Anti-Shuler signs and stickers and put them on my lawn and car
- Encourage my progressive neighbors to become active against Shuler's candidacy
- Attend DNC meetings in the 11th district of NC
- Announce my extreme opposition to his candidacy for NC11 at those meetings
- Loudly announce my disgust at his lack of will to uphold the Constitution
- Actively campaign for any and all primary challengers who will vow to uphold the Constitution

Don't give me that, "He's in a red state and a red district" whine. I have already grudgingly accepted the ugly realities of it. He votes anti-choice. He votes anti-stem cell. I have to suck it up even though it goes against my core beliefs of reproductive choice and the need for good science because, let's face it, this place is full of zealots who thump Bibles loudly but never seem to actually read them. We are stuck with these people and they vote. However, I always come down hard in favor of the Constitution, and what he did tears it up in order to give Gonzales free reign to spy on his political enemies.

Heath Shuler, you have violated your Oath of Office.

It's time to remove cowards from our midst. If you are a resident of NC11, I urge you to call Heath Shuler and let him know how you feel. If you agree with me, then I'll see you at the next DNC meeting prepared to unleash Hell.

14. I'm glad to hear that
They'll be getting an earful from me in the morning. No quarter for extra-Constitutionalists.

3. I have no desire to be a politician
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 07:50 PM by Spiffarino
I don't have the necessary skills. I'm a terrible liar, I stammer and shake when I speak in public, and I'm unattractive as hell. Other than that, I'm perfect.

All I have is a burning desire to see justice restored to this country and a big (albeit stuttery) mouth. I'm best suited for advocacy.

4. He also funded the Iraq Occupation and..
refuses to sign onto Impeachment of Cheney or Gonzo, yet has a frontpage article in the local paper when he voted with virtually all of Congress on ethic reform. I thinks he may bes a pug in dem clothing. He's gotta go.

5. The Republicans initially tried to recruit him
Now I understand why it didn't happen. He decided instead to become their Democratic mole in the House.

it was easier to cut his teeth on our ticket than run against a red incumbent in a red state.

Now he is paper training on our constitution.

10. It is entirely wrong of you...
...to make me laugh when I am this angry.

And yet, you did. For shame, Sonic. For shame.

6. I suppose the republican incumbent would have voted your way - no?
I think such outrage is good for the party, but realism helps too.

7. I don't have any illusions about "Chainsaw" Charlie Taylor
But at least he was the Devil we knew. There is no excuse for any Democrat to have voted for this outrage against the Constitution. None whatsoever. I expect Republicans to be fascists and am equipped to deal with them. I never expect Democrats to sell out our basic rights. When they do, they cease being Democrats.

9. What did you expect?
A "bleeding heart" liberal in North Carolina?

My goodness. You're very naive (apologies to Hillary).

Heath Shuler is a pro-life, pro-gun Democrat, nothing more, nothing less.

11. Color me a "pro-gun Democrat"
I happen to like that part. The Anti-Choice pisses me off, but I understand we're stuck with it here.

I don't expect any "bleeding hearts" to get the nod. I do expect ANY Democrat to vote to uphold the Constitution no matter how badly it polls among Republicans and other dumbasses.
