Fred Thompson's Wife Ran Out on Medical Bills in Nashville
The Washington Post reports that Fred Thompson's wife, Jeri Kehn, once lived here in Nashville and, like many of us, Jeri Kehn had (has!) trouble paying her medical bills.

Hmmm, now what is Fred Thompson's position on universal health care?

".. spent much of her 20s biding her time in Nashville without a clear career path, living with a boyfriend whose main claim to fame was getting arrested in Red Square for unfurling a pizza-parlor banner in the last days of the Cold War. Kehn left three court judgments behind her in Nashville, one of which remains unpaid today, and a court twice garnished her wages. . ."

"In 1996, the Davidson County court in Nashville ordered a $900 judgment against Kehn in a case brought by an anesthesiologist, and garnished her wages at a communications company. In 1997, the court ordered a $1,700 judgment against Kehn for unpaid medical bills at Nashville's Baptist Hospital and again ordered her pay garnished. But Kehn had left for another job, and the debt is still listed in court records as unpaid."

After all these years of feminist gains, it's still true that marriage is the most effective strategy for women to raise their economic status. You'd think Frederick of Hollywood would have paid off his wife's outstanding medical bills by now.

14. Like TV Nation's "Corp-Aid"?
Mike held a benefit concert for the 5 corporations that were levied the biggest fines for pollution and other criminal activities. He presented the CEO's with a basket of cash totaling $1000. We should send Ms. Thompson $47 as a token of DU's generosity.

Spank your little girl, Fred. She was very naughty for letting her unpaid boob job interfere with your uncampaign.

9. Almost 3 grand, why that is 2 suits for Fred! I am sure it merely slipped her mind,
after she moved several times and had 4 or 5 unlisted numbers to beat the skip tracers. . .
Meanwhile, I have been getting calls for a guy who no one seems to know anything about, who had the same phone number as I do now 3 years ago!
Once I even pretended to be him to see the debt amount, it was $575.
Three years of hounding ME over his debt. . .
I pity the people who later got her number in Nashville.

13. If the 'pukes had the same info on Michelle Obama do you think
they'd keep it quiet? It would be a 24 hour a day news story and the talking heads on Faux would have trouble hiding their on air orgasms.

18. Oh brother, you must be joking
This story is stupid - but the floozies that these righteous pillars are married to are too delish to pass up. With Giuliani or Thompson, we will win because America won't be able to handle either one of those women in the White House. It would be the equivalent of electing Bill and Monica, would never happen.

17. That doesn't happen in some places
It isn't common practice to go to court over medical bills in every location, especially not for religious nonprofit hospitals. I don't care who she is, BAPTIST hospital's treatment of the poor is the story here.

Sick: The Untold Story of America's Health Care Crisis---and the People Who Pay the Price
by Jonathan Cohn

http://www.amazon.com/Sick-Untold-Americas-Health-Crisis/dp/0060580453

There's an entire chapter about the Catholic hospital that sued an ex-nun for $60,000 for a short hospital stay... It took her years to finally prevail in court...

For profit, not-for-profit -- it all means nothing when the system is run by the health insurance mafia and big pharma through their agents in both right-wings of the big business party...

She's in very good company and my sympathy's with her... I still technically owe a county hospital for the birth of my daughter... Didn't have the money then, don't have it now...

22. Wonder which state
It is not common practice for hospitals in every state to sue over medical bills. And it isn't common practice for every Catholic hospital system to do it either. In fact, I'm getting free medical care from a Catholic medical system right now. My real point though, some people in some parts of the country really don't know there is any other way. They've never heard of a regular clinic that doesn't ask for cash up front. They don't know what it's like for a doctor to care more about you than the bill. And when you try to tell them there's something better, well I don't know if they just don't believe it or what the deal is. But they never seem to believe they can have it for themselves.

23. Are you trying to say
Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 09:44 PM by ProudDad
we don't need a change in the way Health Care is financed in this country?

If you're trying to say we aren't trying hard enough to find free Health Care, that's no solution to the problem. Who's paying for your "free care"? How are you "qualifying" for your "free care"?

Could you clarify what you're saying here?

========================

On Edit: It was Resurrection Hospital in Chicago:

"Marijon Binder visited the hospital in August 2001. Paramedics insisted on taking the 62-year-old to the E.R. after she complained of chest pains when attending a disabilities-product show. But they also gave her a choice. ''I'll take the Catholic hospital,'' Binder, who happens to be a former nun, recalled telling them.

Binder is a live-in aide for a severely disabled elderly woman, a job that provides no health insurance.

When she told the hospital that she had no way to pay the bill, she was given a charity-care application, which she says she submitted. But soon a bill arrived in her mailbox, detailing $11,395 in charges for her two-night stay. Resurrection said it never received the charity application or responses to half a dozen notices over the next few months; Binder says she called when the first bill arrived, explained that she was supposed to be a charity case and was told not to worry, that the mailing was probably caused by a clerical error. Either way, Resurrection eventually decided to pursue collection a different way: it sued."

http://www.reformresurrection.org/press-clips/uncharitable.html

Resurrection also fires workers who try to organize.

Of course, hospitals shouldn't have to carry the whole load. There should be Universal Single-Payer Health Care for all in this stingy, mean-spirited country...

With all his money, he should pay off the people she skipped out on paying; just to clear her
name, but he'll never have anything even close to a silk purse!!:+
