JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi's Republican governor, Haley
Barbour, easily won his party's nomination on Tuesday, and will
face another wealthy attorney in November as he seeks a second
term in a state still recovering from the widespread destruction
of Hurricane Katrina.
-snip-Barbour will face Democrat John Arthur Eaves Jr., a trial lawyer
from the Jackson suburb of Madison, in the Nov. 6 general election.
-snip-Eaves said he believes Democratic primary voters responded to his
pledge to push for voluntary, student-led prayer in public schools
and for teacher pay raises.
“People are ready for a new day. They are ready for a change,”
Eaves said.
