Weekly Standard senior writer: We are so popular because we are not objective
You may already have heard about the neoconservative Weekly Standard's attack on "The Baghdad Diarist", Scott Beauchamp. The Standard claims that Beauchamp has "recanted" everything he said in his stories with The New Republic. This account from an unnamed source has been contradicted by the Army Public Affairs Officer, who said he has "no knowledge of that."

Now let's hear what a senior writer for the Weekly Standard (Matt Lambash) told the apolitical website JournalismJobs in 2003 when asked why conservative outlets such as the Weekly Standard and Fox are so popular:

Because they feed the rage. We bring the pain to the liberal media. I say that mockingly, but its true somewhat. We come with a strong point of view and people like point of view journalism. While all these hand-wringing Freedom Forum types talk about objectivity, the conservative media likes to rap the liberal media on the knuckles for not being objective. We have created this cottage industry in which it pays to be un-objective. It pays to be subjective as much as possible. It is a great way to have your cake and eat it too. Criticize other people for not being objective. Be as subjective as you want. Its a great little racket. Im glad we found it actually.

1. We do need ideological media.
The problem is that the left hasn't effectively developed its own ideological media. It's not as if there's really such a thing as "objective reporting," since choice of focus is in itself political in nature. "Objectivity" is just a smoke-screen to enforce a consensus on public opinion, usually that of the status quo.
