will do, so they can laugh at us when we cry, "They can't do that".

Today they set the wheels in motion. Here is the statement made on NPR.

(snip)
Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.

"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."
(end snip)

Remember * always says he will do what the military advises.

the Congress will be in their home districts and take the heat.

Impeachment is the worst nightmare of most Congressional Democrats. But once the Republicans start the ball rolling, the Democrats will have to cave in.

If my son were older, he'd be one of the first to go. Two of my nephews come up with low numbers too.

This sucks.

edit to add: The number given to the "day-of-year" was your lottery number.

We didn't ask for this fucking war. We never supported this fucking war. We worked our asses off for Democrats. We love our country. But these REPUBLICAN CHICKENHAWK MOTHERFUCKERS will get my two sons only by going through me. I did my fucking time in another era - the late 60s and early 70s. That's quite enough for wars that make no sense. I have no doubt that my WWII vet father and his 3 WWII brothers would agree with me were they still here.

Enough is e-fucking-nuff.

Draft Romney's strapping lads.

Chickenhawk motherfuckers.

12. The current draft law on the books sets the range for 19 to 24 males to be drafted first.
Then they can raise the age if more are needed.

Your sons are over the 19-24 year mark where most of the draftees will come from at first, once that pool is dried up there's no telling what happens.

15. Thank you
We, as parents can breathe a little easier for the time being, but not those parents of children of the 19-24 age group.

And do you think it will include both male and female? I think it will. It will be interesting.

And then observe young people becoming politically involved- you can bet on it.

Hold on to your hats, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

16. The law on the books is the old draft and is for males only. All it takes is for * to notify the
Selective Services System to start drafting. Any changes would require Congress to amend the law.

which can be challenged or amended or repealed, but the draft would proceed until that happens.

23. Not going to happen.
If Bush even made the attempt the Republican's in Congress will rush back from vacation and demand Impeachment hearings begin. Bush has already crippled the Republican Party, the war is no longer supported in the country, the Republican party as a whole is putting on a brave face and trying to rally behind Bush... but there are cracks. They are more and more critical of him than ever. Doing this would be the death blow to the Republican Party.

There wasn't even support for a draft when over 80% of the country supported the war in the first place. There sure as hell isn't support now. Hell, it could even cause riots.

...then again...

He could always call for a draft as a last ditch effort, riots break out as mostly black people are drafted, and Bush declares marshal law.

That'd be oodles of fun. :sarcasm:

34. That's not America's top priorities, just what's easy for the media to focus on
But I bet any poll would show far far more Americans care more about Iraq than what happened to Paris Hilton in jail.

Hell, remember that 60 Minutes dropped their interview with her because of all the negative publicity it generated and everyone who was disgusted at the amount paid for it.

banks are in chaos, The Fed Reserve brought billions of worthless mortgages to bail out their friends this week, and nobody gives a rats ass.

Even a public statement of a possible draft by * will put the campaign into a tailspin. Are our campaign strategist ready for this? That's what I worry about. I don't want Romney and Cheney for another 8 years.
