Obama table in Madison: August 11 Edition
Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 02:26 PM by zulchzulu
Another hot, beautiful day (93 degrees and humid) with lots of people from all over the globe walking along and choosing from all kinds of locally grown, baked, crafted and political flavors. The Obama table is one feature to many at what the New York Times mentioned "The Dane County Farmers' Market in Wisconsin is now recognized as the largest in the nation, and is still growing."

While the Farmers Market was not as crowded as other days in the first hours of the day, which began at 8am, it did get quite a bit more crowded as the day progressed.

All in all, a steady crowd came by the table and we got about 120 signatures from people from all over the country who had to sign up first before getting a bumpersticker or button. Others took Iowa-centric literature to read later and/or pass on to others.

There were some discussions about the two main debates where everyone thought Obama did well. I agreed with several people who thought that all the candidates in the Chicago debate did well and that the field of candidates is pretty good this year.

Unlike other days doing the Obama table, there were no real bizarre people, screaming Freepers or others that can make a day doing this seem long. It was an easy day for the most part. More and more, people want bumperstickers to put on their car.

Next weekend, a lot of students return to Madison and the Farmers Market should be getting more busy. It's time to get more Obama merch to feed the upcoming onslaught of fans.

1. zulchzulu, you are running a good Obama booth, sounds like to me.
Even more, you're running a great democracy booth.

Thank you.

4. Good to see you, OC
It is good seeing democracy in action. Nothing like seeing people talking politics in the great wide open.

3. We don't have to bash other candidates
in order to promote ours. This is a great attitude to have and so much more productive. Thanks for your report.

16. I've talked with people about Gore getting in the race
I'd say 90% don't think he will, but you never know. If he does, I'd imagine it would have to happen no later than October.

13. I can't wait for Saturdays to do this stuff
I highly recommend it, no matter what candidate someone supports.

I think even people who don't support Obama like seeing people out there in the street.

Always good info from the soldiers in the trenches. Thanks for your hard work on behalf of your candidate and for posting this report.

15. Thanks!
It's only going to get a lot more exciting as the weeks go on.

I'd like to hear more from other people who are doing things for their candidate out in the street. That's where you hear not only things people have read online or from the media, but you also get a chance to engage in discussions about who said it and why, face to face.
