Charged with shady business dealings, Romney fund raiser resigns

By Ryan Haggerty , Globe Correspondent

Mitt Romney's presidential campaign said today it has accepted the resignation of a major fundraiser who has been indicted in Maryland for allegedly shady business dealings.

Alan B. Fabian, 43, a Maryland businessman who was the co-chairman of the campaign's national finance committee, resigned this week, said Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Federal prosecutors have charged Fabian with defrauding companies out of $32 million. He was indicted Wednesday by a Maryland grand jury on 23 counts, including mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice, according to the Baltimore U.S. attorney's office.

Fabian had served as co-chair since January and had contributed the maximum amount of $2,300, Fehrnstrom said.

"We have accepted Mr. Fabian's resignation from his unpaid, volunteer position on the national finance committee, and we are returning his contribution to the campaign," Fehrnstrom said in an e-mail today.

1. HAHA! There's a wingnut I battle on another board.
...who is terrified of the swarthy Arab males and actually advocated carpet bombing cities including Mecca and Medina.

She's supporting Romney/Giuliani or Tancredo in '08 with the statement "It's never to early to start building barriers to stop the "Hilldabeast" train."

Now, besides the glaring spelling error, she's a total idiot....who obviously has no problem with Multiple Choice Mitt as 'her guy'.

This just adds fuel to my fire... gotta love it.

2. And I thought "D's are the party of corruption"...RIGHT....
:eyes:

It really sucks to be an R these days, especially since there are only so many cots in the prison system. Then again, maybe that's why the GOP is so for building new prisons, they need a place to go after the get tried and convicted for all of the nasty stuff they keep getting caught at...:D

3. I've heard of the story where the wolf huffs and puffs ....
but I don't remember anything about them trying to build a campaign made of cheese.
