Diana Taylor shares a life with Hizzoner - and leads a fast-paced one of her own

Gal pal. Arm candy. Brainy beauty. Diana Taylor, the mayor's longtime girlfriend, has been called all those things, but that is hardly the whole picture. An investment banker and sought-after name in the world of nonprofits, she is very much her own woman, living a frenetic double life - one that's all hers and one that's part his.

Much has changed for Michael Bloomberg during the seven years they have been together: The 65-year-old billionaire has gone from being one of the most unpopular mayors in New York City history to a popular two-term mayor whose name is seriously mentioned as a presidential prospect.

Taylor, 52, has remained a constant, the calm in his swirling public life. She is a fiercely loyal companion who has lived with Bloomberg's ups and downs as the 108th mayor of the city.

"Try marching in a parade after the mayor has raised property taxes, banned smoking and closed firehouses, and you can imagine what people have shouted at him," said Taylor, who prefers to stay in the background at public events. "He has been at 32% in the polls and 75%. Seventy-five percent is much more fun."

Close friends and family say they care deeply about each other but are both intensely private. Now, after seven years of being half of New York's ultimate power couple, the elegant life-long Republican has opened the door to the Daily News, revealing what her life with Hizzoner is like....
