Tory Boost For Rudy

IT looks like the Tories in Britain are pulling for Rudy Giuliani to be our next president. On Sept. 19 in London, Giuliani will receive the "Medal of Freedom" award from former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The "Iron Lady," who helped Ronald Reagan bring down the U.S.S.R.'s "Evil Empire," will honor the ex-mayor after he delivers a speech to the Atlantic Bridge, a conservative British-American think tank. The award is a coup for Giuliani as he vies for the Republican nomination for the White House and comes at the expense of GOP rivals John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. But Atlantic Bridge U.S. executive director Scott Syfert insisted the selection of Giuliani had nothing to do with politics. "In Britain, Rudy Giuliani is very well-respected because of his leadership on Sept. 11. We're inviting a famous American leader to speak. It just happens that he's also running for president," he told The Post's Carl Campanile. In 2002, Giuliani was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

3. Has nothing to do with politics, huh?
Just a coincidence he happens to be running for president? Anyone who believes that will not opine in this thread because they would be too dumb to type. Maybe their mothers could post for them.

4. Knighthood - isn't that pretty much a commodity anymore?
To be bought?
Who can forget what 9/11 and 7/7 have in common? Rudy was at ground zero for both!

5. Getting the nastyness out of the way first,
she is dead but nobody dare tell her.

The medal of freedom that the Ghoull is getting is the "Nance Medal of Freedom" which is issued by the Jesse Helms Foundation.

Personally I think that a Medal of Freedom from the Helms foundation must be like a Racial awareness award from the KKK

6. I don't have too much of a problem w/medals, even though it...
even though it appears that they are tossed out by the bushel full, like a Soviet style "first glue, then toss baubles at chest" type of thing.

But I have a serious problem w/the whole "knighhood" thing...:grr:

I'm sure the Ghoul had congressional permission to receive his "knighthood", but there is a reason the Founders put this in The Constitution:

"No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state."

They knew that such honors brought undo status to people seeking office; Ghouliani is a perfect example. They knew that there was a problem.

I have a serious dislike for people who accept such things, as I have a dislike for those who accept an "Honorary Doctrate", when they did no work to attain a legitimate Docrate Degree. It demans the entire process.

Then again, Ghouliani deamns the entire human race by trying to be human...
