Who is the source who claims Bush was an animal abuser as a child?

I keep hearing this on Randi Rhodes and elsewhere but never learned if it was a reliable source or not.

The gist of the story was that young bush killed rabbits with firecrackers and stuff. I need to know more.

Kevin Phillips "American Dynasty" has a lot on GWB's childhood. Lot's of pages, but very good history on the Bush family.

In addition to church groups, various civic organizations were also active, and one of the local rituals for children was the meetings with cookies and milk at the home of a nice old lady who represented the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The cookies were digested more thoroughly than the teachings.

"We were terrible to animals," recalled Mr.(Terry) Throckmorton, laughing. A dip behind the Bush home turned into a small lake after a good rain, and thousands of frogs would come out.

"Everybody would get BB guns and shoot them," Mr. Throckmorton said. "Or we'd put firecrackers in the frogs and throw them and blow them up."

This story was well known during the months before the 2000 Presidential campaign against Al Gore. It was discussed repeatedly.
