Kucinich campaign is awaiting ABC News explanations
Kucinich campaign is awaiting ABC News explanations for its
actions

The Kucinich campaign is still awaiting an official response
from ABC News about the unexplained - some have charged
"inexplicable" - way in which the network has handled its
post-debate online coverage of Ohio Congressman and Democratic
Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich over the past few days.

Among the "outrages" that have energized tens of thousands of
Kucinich supporters - and even non-supporters - thousands of
whom have flooded the ABC News website and other online news
sites with comments of protest:

* Congressman Kucinich was apparently deliberately cropped out
of a "Politics Page" photo of the candidates.
* Sometime Monday afternoon, after Congressman Kucinich took a
commanding lead in ABC's own on-line "Who won the Democratic
debate" survey, the survey was dropped from prominence on the
website.
* ABC News has not officially reported the results of its online
survey.
* After the results of that survey showed Congressman Kucinich
winning handily, ABC News, sometime Monday afternoon, replaced
the original survey with a second survey asking "Who is winning
the Democratic debate?"
* During the early voting Monday afternoon and evening, U.S.
Senator Barack Obama was in the lead. By sometime late Monday or
early Tuesday morning, Congressman Kucinich regained the lead by
a wide margin in this second survey.
* Sometime Tuesday morning, ABC News apparently dropped the
second survey from prominence or killed it entirely.
* AND, as every viewer of the nationally televised Sunday
Presidential forum is aware, Congressman Kucinich was not given
an opportunity to answer a question from moderator George
Stephanopoulos until 28 minutes into the program.

The campaign submitted objections and inquiries to ABC News
representatives on Monday and Tuesday. ABC News representatives
have failed to respond - or even acknowledge - those objections
and inquiries.

1. Jeez let it go guys
Not getting a question for 28 minutes is a problem, but the whole online poll thing? They're unscientific. Even the original Kucinich press release uses that exact word. That means that they get 'freeped' or whatever term you want, and ABC apparently felt that these were having it happen to them.

They dont' have to report the results, and the results are meaningless.

The whinyness involved here has made Kucinich lose my vote.

2. I agree. If this is how Kucinich expects to win votes then he really does have no chance.

3. I don't blame them....
it's terrible the way they ignore Kucinich at the debates. Obviously the media has decided that Hillary is the candidate, and to hell with everyone else. I'm sick of MSM telling us who our candidate is, I wish some pollster would talk to me. Where do they get their data? I am a peace activist, and I don't know one person who would vote for Hillary. Everyone I talk to likes Edwards and Kucinich.

4. Let's see Kucinich won an online poll?

Could people vote multiple times? Not to hate on Dennis and his supporters but how legitimate is this poll?

5. After Stephanopolous threw out a "gotcha" to the candidates about
whether they prayed (e.g. for hurricane relief), Dennis zinged smug George by saying that he had been praying during the whole program that he would be asked a question. Dennis can handle anything that comes his way. He just needs a fair chance to be heard.

6. This may seem silly but it is actually extremely important...
There is no democracy if the mainstream media decides elections for us by manipulating facts and access. At this point every candidate should be receiving equal air time in debates ~ so the people have a chance to decide and not the press or the polls (which are often worded to elicit a specific response).

In this case, though DK was given far less time during the debate than other candidates, the people STILL chose him. ABC News took it upon themselves to hide this unwanted fact ~ exactly what the media in a fascist country does.

9. Very well stated
The media has already decided the election; other candidates need not apply, especially upstart candidates who actually represent the views of the people. God forbid we actually have a free election in this country. :sarcasm:

12. Then they should have sent a statement saying that.
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 08:34 AM by cobalt1999
Where in the statement in the OP did it talk about getting far less time. That's a valid complaint. Going on and on about a meaningless, unscientific poll, makes the whole campaign look silly.

Maybe you should join their brain trust, because the official statement comes off as desperation.

*edit for grammar and spelling*

10. But OF COURSE, had Clinton or Obama been in the lead
You would be screaming that the poll was perfectly accurate and representative of American voters?

11. No.
Unscientific polls, no matter what they say, are meaningless. PERIOD.

Complaining about them is the height of silliness.

13. I agree. I'm tired of seeing polls that are obviously pushed.
We see this all the this all the tim on DU - "This poll needs a little DU help". Then some poll in a small town newspaper explodes. It doesn't mean anything.
