looks like Al may be going for the top spot after all ...
the implications of this story almost boggle the mind ... how is it possible that so many macaroons in the Democratic Party still are selling the "here's what we need to do to make progress in Iraq" nonsense? really, how is it possible?

if you are supporting someone who doesn't say that we should get the troops out, ALL OF THE TROOPS, as quickly as their safety allows, get yourself a different candidate. because if they aren't saying that, and if you aren't saying that, then what you are saying is that we have to remain FOR SOME PURPOSE.

hear these words: NOTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED BY THE US IN IRAQ. Are we clear on this now?

Maliki's days are numbered. Waiting in the wings? It's Al. No, not our Al. Not "the good Al." It's Al Sadr.

What will your "here's what we need to do to fix Iraq" be when Al Sadr is the new Prime Minister. It's time for the US to get out. Not in 16 months when we get a Democrat president. That's insane. CUT OFF FUNDING. TAKE A STAND. SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. STOP PLAYING POLITICS WITH THIS WAR. SHOW SOME BACKBONE.

here's an article on Al Sadr's rise to power:

Sen. Feinstein: Iraqi PM al-Maliki on Last Legs; Moqtada al Sadr is in the Wings

In the California Senator's view, Nuri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, "is on his last legs," the Iraqi majority is yearning for a strong man and the militant Shiite cleric, Moqtada al-Sadr is waiting in the wings. According to Feinstein, an Iranian poll shows him to be the most popular political figure in Iraq.

Why the political impasse? In her view the Shiite majority has become intractable because, after centuries of waiting, they are finally in power and are not about to give that up. <skip>

When asked if U.S. withdrawal or even draw back would invite a bloodbath, Feinstein argued that a bloodbath is already underway, with 1,000 Iraqis killed each month, and the U.S. can do nothing to stop it.

4. No doubt in my mind Al Sadr will be Iraq's leader
He's relatively young, charismatic, and (IMO) the desire to be Iraq's leader. Being a powerful cleric helps with the Shia at least.

6. I love that word!
My grandfather used to call his grandkids his "crazy bunch of macaroons". It made me laugh then, and makes me smile now.

:)
