NAACP challenges Louisiana voter purge
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/L/LOUISIANA_VOTER_PURGE?SITE=ALANN&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

By ALAN SAYRE
Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The NAACP filed a civil rights lawsuit challenging a purge of Louisiana voters believed to have registered in other states following Hurricane Katrina.

In the federal court action, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People contends that the purge has already begun without the necessary pre-approval of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Because of its history of racial discrimination before the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, voting changes in Louisiana and other Southern states must be approved by federal officials.

1. I don't really mind the challenge....
But the fact is that most of the people in question HAVE left Louisiana and don't appear to be interested in coming back. Whether or not they've registered to vote wherever they landed is something that is unknown.

I don't believe I just read that. I'm going to be kind and assume that you have no idea what has been going on in New Orleans and the surrounding area, because that is the FURTHEST thing from the truth possible.

Lifelong Louisiana resident here... Think I probably know a bit more about what's going on in my backyard than you do.... Baton Rouge alone has thousands of Katrina refugees who have point-blank said that they're not going back. I have friends and family who left and report that they are not going back.

The voting issue is pretty simple- you vote in the precinct where you live. Period.
