Seelye's NYT highlighting of Michelle's comment STINKS of Gore-ization of a Dem candidate...
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 09:38 AM by DeepModem Mom
and is a sign of things to come for any of our candidates, I'm afraid. Take some comment (this one from an obscure article in "Glamour" magazine) about the Internet, or "Love Story," and create a meme to destroy a candidate. We've been here before with Seelye.

Drudge has seized on the story now, and I expect that by the end of the afternoon, it'll be reported by Wolf Blitzer. And Obama -- and any Dem candidate -- will be shaped by this kind of stuff instead of ideas, policies or even true personal character. Not slamming the reporting of the NYT item here (we need to know what's out there) -- just a cautionary note.

Obama stinks in the morning, says wife

1. It's been documented since before Gore, amply Illustrated with Gore, Kerry.
In the primaries, MSM picks for us a designated loser to their guy - our wishes have little to do with the outcome. Once that done, designated loser is thoroughly trashed, while GOP-ers beatified.
It's why I always said that arguments such as "baggage" "fresh face" electable" are pure MSM invented BS.
Al Gore was squeaky clean - and yet they made him into a "serial liar".
Do not dream any democrat will be treated any different. NONE OF THEM!

2. Jonathan Alter on Tucker yesterday
complaining about why we're talking about this story instead of issues - when he was happily chatting about this story.

Even after his supposed trashing of the media over what was done to Gore, he turns right around and participates in it again. And then does the exact same thing when he doesn't report that most Democrats are still fighting for deadline language in the upcoming war legislation. He's a weasel.

3. Everybody is a little stinky and bad-breathy in the morning--
my husband is stinky and snore-y, as am I, as are you. I really don't understand why anyone would have even taken notice of this little anecdote. Weird. I guess we're supposed to pretend the candidates don't go to the bathroom, or catch cold, or have a bad-hair day or coffee breath sometimes.

4. Exactly. Michelle for a while made remarks to "humanize" Barack, but she's ended that phase...
and moved away from these personal comments, to some eloquent, impassioned speeches on his behalf. But months later, this is highlighted -- plucked from "Glamour" to the New York Times.

5. Yep--there always has to be a non-issue, a small joke, an unexpected facial expression, a
verbal trip-up--SOMETHING--to be magnified until it irreparably distorts the candidate's image. This is nitpicking bullshit--she just related a cute little family story, and probably never once thought that anyone would pick it apart as a matter of importance.

6. Took longer than I thought!
I just knew when reading the Glamour article, that particular word would be highlighted by the sorry ass MSM!

I just wish Michelle the best...she is fantastic!:loveya:

11. Actually I think the Obamas have it right.
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 04:35 PM by AtomicKitten
They are straightforward people that are actually lifelike and perhaps not as susceptible to the ridicule dished up by the smuggest of TV pundits. The cackling about this innocuous comment is absurd. I'm curious to see what kind of traction it gets; I would guess not much because it is so lame.

The Obamas are so different, in a good and refreshing kind of way. Who knows. They may be impervious to the Media Heathers' best efforts. Now, that would be refreshing.

13. Well, one of CNN's female reporters (Carol Costello?) just reported it on "Situation Room."
It was pretty straightforward -- but now it's been seen by many more eyes, thanks to one sentence in an interview months ago published in a fashion magazine. You're right, though -- this will pass.

12. It doesn't matter how nice they are
or how down to earth or how intelligent. Michelle has got to learn to start watching what she says because a lot of people will find this gross and will think she is lacking a little class. NOT saying I think that, but we want him elected if he is nominated and they have to look and act Presidential because a lot of people will pick up on this, the Repugs and media will never drop it and these kind of comments will hurt. She has made him human; enough already.

14. You're right -- I wish she hadn't said it; it was a mistake. A passing comment months ago...
to a fashion magazine. A Harvard trained lawyer, she'll learn to be more careful. Still, I wish such as the amplification of this didn't have to happen.
