Give me a f**king BREAK! MSNBC: On again, off again Craig "seeks to withdraw guilty plea"

Will he, won't he, did he, didn't he? Although I agree with the Crooks & Liars Web Site. PLEASE, Senator Craig...CONTINUE this nonsense through the "Petraeus Report." PLEASE.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17152243/

WASHINGTON - Sen. Larry Craig will file court documents Monday asking to withdraw his guilty plea in a sex sting that seems likely to end his career, his attorney said.

Craig, an Idaho Republican, pleaded guilty in August to disorderly conduct following a sting operation in a men’s bathroom at the Minneapolis airport.

He has said he regrets that decision, which he said he made hastily and without talking to an attorney. He said he was under stress and pleaded guilty only to put the matter behind him.

Attorney William Martin said Sunday night that a request to withdraw that plea would be filed Monday. Such requests are rarely granted. Martin would not discuss the argument he planned to make in court.

3. But it was HIS decision not to talk to an attorney
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 07:36 PM by rocknation
and he certainly could have had one review the plea bargain before he signed it!

After doing such a magnificent job of saving Michael Vick, methinks William Martin is stringing Craig along for the sake of a few extra paychecks.

13. And wasn't that the most bullshit excuse EVER
that he gave for having his hand under the stall partition? What person picks up toilet paper off the floor of a public bathroom, let alone reaches under the partition to pick it up from another stall? Puh-leez. He isn't even an imaginative liar.

15. Don't get your hopes up...
Craig is popular in Idaho. Idahoans are the only group mad
at repug leaders for forcing Craig out.

8. Don't you love it when these law and order types end up on the other side?
The same people who think that that it's perfectly ok to deny appeals to a defendant whose lawyer slept through the trial or who DNA proved didn't commit the crime or who was obviously railroaded by a gung-ho prosecutor and allow arguably innocent people to be executed suddenly become uber-civil libertarians when they find themselves in the criminal justice system.

Larry Craig is a grown-ass man, a long-time United States Senator who had been advised of his right to a lawyer and made a conscious, calculated decision NOT to seek the advice of one - clearly because he thought he could make the matter go away. It's laughable to hear him whine now about being victimized by the system because he didn't have a lawyer's advice.

Oh, by the way, Senator Craig - just about EVERY defendant is under stress.

I guess that means his re-election campaign is no longer "stalled"...

12. Yeah, a "hasty" decision
I mean, he got busted in June, and didn't sign the plea agreement until August. I mean, that's barely two months to think about it! Of course, we send kids off to war with less reflection once they sign on the dotted line, and they don't get to say "tap, tap, no tap-backs" a month later.

14. He's admitting perjury
I wonder if he's talked to a lawyer yet because he sure isn't acting like it.

Although, I expected them to find a friendly judge and have this whole thing thrown out by last Friday.

16. his only excuse to succeed has to be "I'm an idiot and can not read"
The only grounds for an appeal after signing the 5 to 7 page Guilty Plea and notification of rights is that he did not "fully" understand what he was reading or doing.

So his only defense is "I'm an idiot."

I am sure that any reasonable judge is going to laugh a United States Senator right out of the court room with that claim.

17. This tea-room queen should get exactly what he deserves
and that's plenty of grief for all his hypocrisy. I think it's great that he is keeping this all in the news where it belongs. You know his fellow repugs are hating him for it.

The old wanker was an attorney by the way before he went into politics. One would think he would understand the law?
