Flashback: John Kerry apologizes because right-wingers misinterpret his words
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/01/kerry.remarks/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John Kerry apologized Wednesday for a "poorly stated joke," which the Massachusetts senator said was aimed at the president but was widely perceived as a slam on U.S. troops.

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said.

Kerry had to issue a correction, not an apology. The transcript of his prepared joke said that if you don't study hard you end up "getting us stuck" in Iraq. Kerry misspoke saying "getting stuck" in Iraq.

1. he didn't apologize at first, he only did after he saw other Dems were not
going to defend him, especially Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer because of the 2006 elections.

and i remember on DU many attacked him when he refused to apologize also.

2. After Hillary threw him under the bus
Because he was the only one standing in the way of her Presidential bid. That's "our girl", always ready to dump on a Democrat and give Republicans the "benefit of the doubt" and "forgiveness".

3. It's the same thing that's happening now. Kerry says he doesn't like an ad
and the detractors from hell pile on with the traitor remarks.

4. Don't know why you are posting this
"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said.

"As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: My poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop," he said.

In the statement, the four-term senator continued to assert that the GOP was using the gaffe to distract voters from its own shortcomings.

"It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy," he said. "I don't want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops."

He apologized for the Republicans using a botched joke to change topic from Iraq. Guess what it didn't work and the bastids lost.

5. So nice to have support from your party when you miss a word.
:sarcasm:
