NY Times: voters from Iowa and NH are smarter than voters from other states
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 10:13 PM by antiimperialist
Today Adam Nagourney from the NY Times bluntly made the case that Iowa and NH should be first on line in the primaries because their voters are knowledgeable about the issues, while those from other states, i.e. Colorado and California, are ignorant.

Nagournay says that one Iowan remembered two of John Edwards" "three H's": Hedge funds, haircut, and the large home he bought. This proves voters from NH are smarter.
Nagourney then managed to find one person from California who did not know Barack Obama:

"Or consider the response from Casey K. Schoenfeld, 40, a Republican from Clovis, Calif., a state that has moved its primary up from June to Feb. 5. Asked about his view of Senator Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat, he replied, “Explain Barack Obama.”

Informed that Mr. Obama was running for president, Mr. Schoenfeld responded with a laugh: “Obviously, I don’t feel too strongly about him.”

Nagournay goes on about how these states are the last coca cola in the desert.

2. Well shove politics down a states' throat for how many years? Yea,
they might could 'get it' more than other states or people who've been through this trauma. It has to be in your face, all the time, and I give props to the people who deal with it.
It's bad enough in states where nothing much is happening.

3. Iowans and New Hampshirites take their caucus and primary very seriously
In Iowa it has been said that the caucus voters bring notebooks with them to the polls. They are like professional voters.

I think I went to school with his brother. I think this little smilie can explain that answer...

:smoke:

That hot guy in high school who wore overalls and a tie-dye shirt, with hair down past his shoulders - yeah, that guy.

It has been a loooong time ago, I'll say that.

10. Nagourney is not too bright either, you know!
A best of his electoral forecasting in 2004 and 2006 could be interesting to read.

11. IA and NH are used to retail politics and familiar with the
critical thinking skills that come with choosing a "frontrunner." If the candidates spent as much time in all other States as they did these 2, no doubt ALOT of folks would be more knowledgeable as well.

Nagourney is an idiot.
