E-mail campaign needed. Bush's U.N. speech was a moment of truth.

Friends, I feel like crying. This is a turning point. The moment we have feared and warned about has arrived. Thanks to the Bushies, the United States has lost all credibility and respect in the world.

Bush was talking about human rights and America's generosity to the world. And the world was silent. There was no applause -- neither from friends nor from foes. The world looked on him with contempt. And in so doing, the world looked on US with contempt.

If you are disgusted by Bush's smirks, look at the smirk on the face of the delegate from Sudan about midway in the speech. It is beyond contempt. It is a look of ridicule. The total impotence of the Bush presidency is revealed in the smirk of that man from Sudan.

Some years ago, this same Burmese government shot thousands of protesters. That government is still in power and was sitting in the United Nations yesterday. Look at the hard expression on the face of the Burmese delegation when Bush chastises their country and threatens sanctions.

The United States used to be respected. Our presidents were greeted with applause in the United Nations.


My dear friends, Bush has taken our nation from the position of foremost power and greatest leader the world has known since the Roman Empire to one of the lowest and least respected powers in history. (By that I mean that we can still claim to be a powerful nation, but we no longer can claim to be a respected nation.)

I propose an e-mail campaign in which we each e-mail a link to that horrible U.N. fiasco (the speech isn't the problem; the world's reaction and the reasons for it are) to our Congressmembers and ask the simple question: "What are you personally going to do this congressional session to restore America's credibility on human rights?"

There is no other candidate. Kucinich's platform is certainly in the right place, but he doesn't have the global recognition that Gore does now.

Run, Al. RUN.

A person has to want to and be willing to be president.

I feel like Gore felt when he said recently that with each new atrocity, he has to clear out some space because he's already full. Gore of course used the computer analogy, but you get my drift.
