I don't understand the appeal this man has. Aren't there good Democrats in WV that could hold that seat with a little more dignity?

2. Would you care to elaborate?

I've met him in person, and while he's getting on in years, and may be "old school" when it comes to appropriations, I wouldn't want to take him on over a matter of Constitutional Law...

hood?

And I don't want people giving me grief about how he denounced his Klan membership.

He's just transfered his bigotry from being openly anti-black to being openly anti-gay.

Because Robert Byrdbrain doesn't need to wear a hood for THAT.

Maybe, when the old bastard finally goes to Hell, we'll find out that he had a homosexual affair with one of Strom Thurmond's children.

7. Sorry that Sen. Byrd's' appearance makes you uneasy;
However his vote counts as if he were Brad Pitt. Be damn glad he's there!

11. I don't care if he looks like Quasi Modo or Brad Pitt.
Byrd's ugly is on the inside.

8. Good luck finding someone in now very red West Virginia
Part of me wishes he retired during the Clinton Administration when Democrats had a much easier time getting elected there. We'd have a very hard time getting a Democrat elected there now and especially a non-DINO at that.

I don't tolerate his bigotry but the fact is that on matters of war of peace he he is spot on and his wisdom is greatly needed now more than ever. When he stated in 2002 that the IWR was just the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution all over again, that statement was so much more powerful because he actually voted for the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.

So, while I don't admire Robert Byrd as a person I still think that it's important for him to be in the Senate.

14. I'll trade you one Larry Craig for one Robert Byrd any day!
I think it is pretty obvious that I don't have anything worth trading for, but Craig doesn't even know how the law works and he was a member of the House for 10 years before he became a Senator serving in Congress for the last 17 years.

27 years in Congress!

Senator Byrd carries a copy of the Constitution around with him.

Senator Craig doesn't even know what that document is!!
