"We like to see a contest": How the media will Gore Hillary
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 05:21 PM by Karmadillo
Last time the media decided to undermine a Democrat, we got George W Bush. I wonder who we'll get if they're successful this time.

<edit>

WILLIAMS: Howard, I don't know of any kind of conspiratorial Trilateral Commission-like council meetings in the news media. But you bring up an interesting point. And boy, it does seem true over the years that the news media almost reserve the right to build up and tear down and change their minds and like an underdog. What's that about?

FINEMAN: Well, what it's about is the relentless search for news and the relentless search for friction in the story. I don't think the media was going to allow, just by its nature, the next seven weeks and the last seven or eight weeks of the campaign to be all about Al Gore's relentless triumphant march to the presidency.

We want a race, I suppose. If we have a bias of any kind, it's that we like to see a contest, and we like to see it down the end if we can. And I think that's partly the psychology at play here.

Since Labor Day, it had looked like Gore was slated the White House. Bob Novak had described the “Republican panic.” But this week, the coverage suddenly changed—and Gore was being called a Big Liar again. Why did “the media pendulum swing?” Why did the press corps suddenly seem to “like an underdog” (Bush)? According to Fineman, “I don't think the media was going to allow...the last seven or eight weeks of the campaign to be all about Al Gore's relentless triumphant march to the presidency.” According to Fineman, Gore was suffering his worst week since the Dem Convention because the press corps was looking for ways to make the election close.

That was an astounding statement—and a truly fateful admission. For the record, Williams had begun his broadcast with a deeply troubled report about those disturbing doggy pills.

13. I think one has to speak up when it happens. It happened to Al Gore and it's happening
to Hillary as we speak. Hardball is balancing Hillary's "cackle" ("she's a witch!") with Obama's "hope." I doubt any Dem will get a pass, but right now it's Hillary who is the clear target of the liberal media.

18. Making Hillary a martyr, after all the positive spin she's gotten, is like...
... modern day christians trying to take on the victim role. It just doesn't work when everything has been in your favor for so long.

9. Fineman betrayed the American People,
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 05:34 PM by Uncle Joe
there is no other way to put it.

If you're looking to hire someone for a critically important job that could impact your life along with your friend's and family's lives, do you want the best person for the job or do you want a close race between the applicants with the possible chance of allowing a corrupt incompetent to work for you?

Fineman, admit it you piece of shit, you trashed and slandered Al Gore because he empowered the American People over your master's head and all you felt was your petty spite!

16. That's what I love about DU...only here...
Could someone...with a straight face...say the most vetted politician in America...hasn't been vetted...

Say the politician who has been the primary target of some of the most vicious attacks the media can dish out...has been given a free ride...

17. And this is what I love about the Hillary Gaggle.....
Only among them could anyone not observe that the media annointed Hillary the front runner even before 04 was over, showered her with attention, and pretty much have given her a free ride up until now.

That will change, of course, if she gets the nomination sewed up.

20. The dynamics changed today. Hilary is in the barrel
and Obama gets nice treatment Hilary reeived up until today.

This means they have discounted Edwards.

Matthews: Hilary is not concerned about Edwards it is Obama.

In other words, they gave Hilary unusually nice treatment to
get her firmly fixed as Front Runner. Now they want this
race to be Hilary Obaama--get Edwards out of the way.

Obama will get passes and praise for a while to see if he
can knock Hilary out of first place. As far as the media
is concerned these have been the only two candidates.

They use polls to shape opinions not to find out who is ahead.

They know most Americans will follow the crowd. They choose
who they want as Pres. then use Poll after poll to shape opinions.
Every day, Hillary maintains the lead...Hilary has never stumbleed
.....Hilary is wait out front and stays there...something really
serious would have to happen to change Hilary's Lead. Average
Joe and Jane hear this, Pollster calls, they say they are for
Hilary.

Now we will see the same thing with Obama.

Some candidates never even get honorary mention. (The Media decided
from day one--these people will never make it.

hope I do not sound too cynical. The Dynamics changed today.
