'New York For Gore' Announces Effort In New York
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 05:15 AM by Hissyspit
Source: New York For Gore

We are drafting Al Gore in New York!

New York Draft Al Gore will seek to obtain the requisite 5,000 signatures to place Al Gore on the Democratic primary ballot. In order to obtain 5,000 valid signatures, we need to get more in the league of 10,000 signatures (on the low end).

Petitioning cannot officially begin until Oct. 31. Petitions must be in by the first week of December but in reality the collection must begin more than a week in advance.

Al Gore’s signature is not required. He does, however, have until Dec 10 to ask the Board of Elections to refuse our petitions.

1. Boy, talk about a "no duh" kind of headline.
Also, I doubt this will stay on LBN for very long.

That having been said, good for them.

5. I signed up
Al Gore is our best bet for a good President, for a change.

From their website:

New York supports Al Gore for President. Here’s why:

The majority of Americans are fed up with the war in Iraq, and Gore has opposed the war from the beginning, unlike the leading Democratic contender, Hillary Clinton, who voted for the war and refuses to apologize for her vote, claiming she was misled. (Twenty-one other Democratic senators, including Bob Graham, then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, were not misled and voted against the war.)

At the same time, Americans want an effective defense against the threat of terrorism, and as a former Senator and Vice President, Gore has more experience than any other leading Democratic contender in the use of American power. Though he opposed the current war in Iraq, he supported the first Iraqi war (the Gulf war), as well as the wars in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. He knows when and where to use American power and how to apply it.

Gore has shown outstanding leadership in the battle against global warming, which is the single most critical issue of our time. Standing almost alone for almost 30 years, he has managed to put global warming on our national agenda. As a result, congress will probably pass the first substantial legislation against global warming this year.

Throughout his public life, Gore has been identified with populism and the cause of economic justice. Populism had a resurgence in the recent congressional election, helping Democrats gain majorities in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Like millions of other Americans, including the most conservative, Gore and his wife Tipper are deeply religious, albeit completely opposed to fundamentalism and intolerance. Throughout their 40-year marriage, they have been regular churchgoers.

Gore can thus provide America with the leadership it needs in these perilous times—leadership based on both reason and faith, science and religion. He has a better chance of winning the election than any other Democrat and is the person best qualified to be the next president of the United States.
