predicts Clarence Page and Jeffrey Toobin.

Utterly silly speculation.

Running mate not only job Clinton could offer Obama
Clarence Page
October 10, 2007

As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has firmed up her lead in the Democratic presidential race, speculation about her potential running mate is rising -- among Republicans!

"Absolutely," said former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani when asked during a recent interview if he thinks Clinton will be nominated. "I believe she will be the nominee and Sen. Obama will be the vice presidential nominee."

<SNIP>

That's why I suspect legal expert Jeffrey Toobin is closer to the truth with his prediction. While promoting his latest book, "The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court," he predicted that, if elected president, Clinton would offer Obama a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.

That would be a hard offer for Obama to pass up, even though accepting it would all but rule out his running against President Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2012. As they say on a certain TV game show, what'll it be, Senator? Deal or no deal?

1. Isn't the Chicago Tribune owned by Scaife, also?
I asked this before ... Isn't it a "Tribune Media Group" or something?

3. Only two people turned down SC seats to run for President.
William Howard Taft (who won, then lost for re-election) turned down Teddy Roosevelt's offers twice, and Charles Hughes resigned from the Court to run against Woodrow Wilson -- and lose.

Both regretted their decisions.

Taft, by the way, was nominated to be Chief Justice by Warren Harding, so he eventually did get his seat on the Court.

Depending on who he would replace, Obama could leave a longer-lasting mark on the nation from the bench than he could the Oval Office.

4. It's stupid to even speculate that Obama would run against a Dem incumbent in 2012
Does this columnist know anything about politics?
