Ralph Nader says that the grassroots are insignificant and don't matter.
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 11:58 AM by LoZoccolo
"And where do you think they are going to get that money? They are not going to get that money from the people who harvest our food or the people that clean up after us or the people who do the everyday work in the country."

Look at Nader, insulting all the hard work of the grassroots, which includes the netroots. He is basically saying that you do not matter. Do you still think he speaks for you?

You might feel that Nancy Pelosi thinks that anti-war protests don't matter, but Nader thinks that all your money contributions don't matter.

Look at the whole article. It certainly isn't very negative. Why are they promoting Nader?

12. Oh, puhleeze
:nopity:

Nader's not insulting the netroots.

He's saying that our election system is corrupted by money. Do you disagree?

"Presidential politics has been broken for a long time. The two parties have been broken. They need a wake-up call. They need somebody to hold their feet to the fire," he says.
...

Nader says today that presidential hopefuls must raise hundreds of millions of dollars to be competitive.

Sorry, but only losers focus their wrath on Nader. It enables them to avoid confronting the actual issues, such as a corrupted election system. Much easier to just create a boogie man and wring your hands worrying about what he's going to say next.

We didn't lose because of Nader, but we reveal ourselves to be losers if we spend all our time trying to demonize him. I've always voted Democratic. I have worked hard for Democratic candidates in countless campaigns. I've never voted for Nader. But I am not angry at Ralph. Nor am I afraid of him. Nader is a symptom of a party that is alienating its base. And we ignore this symptom at our peril.

How nice for you to have your own Emmanuel Goldstein to obsess about.

20. Did you read those articles?
You would find that my actions against Nader have nothing to do with obsessive-compulsive disorder. You should not mischaracterize mental illnesses, because people suffering from them might get a distorted picture of their symptoms and not recognize that they have them to get the help that would improve their quality of life.

18. Also, your argument about me being a loser presupposes...
...that Nader represents "confronting the actual issues". He does not. Ask him about abortion or gay/lesbian issues and he will dismiss them as "gonadal politics".

Abortion Issues

Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding abortion.
X d) Abortions should be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape.
X e) Abortions should be legal when the life of the woman is endangered.

state government.
X i) Provide funding for family planning programs as a means to decrease the number of abortions.
X j) Other or expanded principles
The Nader-Camejo campaign supports the principles articulated in Roe v. Wade and its progeny.

26. They AREN'T IMPORTANT
in the grand scheme of things, in a mature, reasonable, sane society there would be no question, concern or mention of abortion rights or gay rights; they would be a matter of course.

That's what Ralph's saying.

His point is that folks are allowing the far-right lunatic fringe control the agenda with "gonadal politics" and that you shouldn't buy into that bullshit either.

The REAL enemies are the corporations and their corporate capitalist masters...

Follow the money...if you can...through your hate filled haze...

17. what a demeaning little man nader is....Ken Burns in "The War" series
mentioned the genius of FDR in getting the whole country to participate in the war effort...kids collecting tin cans, bond drives. The war on polio was the same...we brought dimes to school. If small donations give us a sense of inclusion, then we are much more likely to vote...and they still give each one of us that single vote. Corps. don't vote, people do.

23. Cherry picking again
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 12:34 PM by ProudDad
In your hatred of a great man you cherry pick from one article to buttress your obsession...

"In 1996 and 2000, Nader ran as a presidential candidate for the Green Party, shunning the policies of both the Democratic and Republican Parties. He announced his bid for the White House again in 2004 as an independent.

"Presidential politics has been broken for a long time. The two parties have been broken. They need a wake-up call. They need somebody to hold their feet to the fire," he says.

President George W. Bush won re-election in 2004. Many Democrats dubbed Nader a spoiler for his refusal, once again, to get out of the race. "How can you spoil a spoiled political system, to begin with, and second: if we all have an equal right to run for political office, then none of us are spoilers or all of us are spoilers of one another."

Nader says today that presidential hopefuls must raise hundreds of millions of dollars to be competitive. "And where do you think they are going to get that money? They are not going to get that money from the people who harvest our food or the people that clean up after us or the people who do the everyday work in the country. They are going to get it from the millionaires, the mega-millionaires, the billionaires and the corporations."

There are VERY FEW folks here on DU who wouldn't agree with that last statement!

Get a life, my friend...

28. He did not say that he will not run.
Last time, he did not announce until April 2004. Nader himself may not run anyways, but another left-wing third-party candidate may enter as well. It is more Naderism that I am against than Nader himself.
