Democrat Mark R. Warner raised more than $1 million for his bid for the U.S. Senate in less than three weeks, according to reports filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission. Warner, a former governor, entered the race for the seat of retiring Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.) on Sept. 13.

Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) and former Virginia governor James S. Gilmore III are considering running for the GOP nomination. Gilmore hasn't set up an exploratory committee. Davis started an exploratory committee Sept. 14. It raised $78,000 through Sept. 30.

What great news - not only do we get rid of John Warner, we get Mark to team up with Jim Webb.

2. word is that Davis may decide not to pursue the nomination
which is too bad since if he ran for Senate, odds are great that Warner would defeat him AND a Democrat would pick up Davis' house seat. If Davis doesn't run and decides to defend his house seat, he will be vulnerable, but still difficult to beat.
