Clinton edges Obama in cash on hand
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 12:19 PM by Tellurian
WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton ended September with more money in the bank than rival Barack Obama, holding $35 million cash on hand for the presidential primary contests to his $32 million.

Clinton, who had trailed Obama in fundraising and in money in the bank at the end of June, edged past him with an aggressive third quarter of fundraising.

Clinton, who also has been raising money for the general election, had a total of $50 million in the bank, her campaign said Monday night. But $15 million of that cannot be used for the primaries.

Obama had a similar cash-on-hand amount at the end of June, meaning he likely spent the $20 million he has reported raising from July through September. Clinton appears to have spent less than the $22 million she raised for the primary.

Obama ramped up his advertising toward the end of third quarter. He has placed more than 4,200 spots on television, practically all of it in Iowa. Clinton has placed nearly 2,200 spots, with more than 1,600 airing in Iowa. According to Nielsen, Clinton has also placed a small number of ads in a number of other states, including New York, Tennessee, Louisiana and Arizona.

...it appears Obama has burned thru the $20M he raised last quarter..

-snip-

In the end, Clinton reported raising $28 million between July 1 and Sept. 30 and having $50 million in cash-on-hand.

Of that, about $34 million can be spent on the primary, while $16 million is for the general election. Clinton also reported carrying $2 million in debts, driving her ready cash figure down to around $32 million.

Obama’s report, the last to go public, showed him raising $21 million during the third quarter and ending it with $36 million in cash.

But he, too, has some debt and has raised money that must be held for the general election, which drives his primary cash total to about $32 million.

12. Hillary doesn't know what a grass roots
campaign is.

Bill did back in the day.

But, they're a machine now.

10. You're spamming lies.
This is the second time you've posted the same story.

It is bogus, because the Clinton $35M figure fails to account for her larger debt load.

The first time could be a mistake.

The second reflects on character.

6. Fascinating. Most people would retract a false
story if they posted it.

This one doubles down.

Reminds me of Bush.

What about the falsehood that that thread was pointing out? You don't mention anything about that. I wonder why?

13. Not in Iowa where the race is too close to call. . .
. . .and if he wins that, it changes the complexion of the race dramatically.

3. What, one dishonest post on the subject wasn't enough for you?
They each have $32M they can spend on the primary. Clinton has more debt and more liquid cash. But they're in virtually identical in terms of how much cash they have to spend on the primary.

15. You are right, I read it that Obama has $32m on hand AFTER spending $20m
Of course I can be wrong, but I can't imagine that Obama's $20m in spending is not showing up somewhere.

17. No, the report hasn't been released in full yet..
Meanwhile, a new CNN/Opinion Research Poll, set for release at 4pm, “will show a major shift in the race for the White House.”

I wonder where that shift will point to?
