A Bridge ALMOST Too Far-We may have been had.
Just today at DU I have seen postings indicating the Bush regime may be pulling back it's claws. From the possibility of "some" troop withdrawals within months to releasing "some" documents relating to domestic spying, I sense a general "giving" from a steel-hard crew that has never before flexed an inch. If this is true-and if it continues, we need to consider that they know now-and have ALWAYS known that they cannot win the fight of the last 7 years but can only profit from having orchestrated it. If this is in fact the case, then the next moves will all be "amnesty" moves to allow them to keep what they have stolen and to avoid criminal prosecution. We have always assumed they were willing to "go for broke"-I now wonder if they are willing to go for just a lush retirement?

2. This is what many unpopular presidents do in their last year...
Bush is just trying to save what's left of his reputation at this point, for he knows that history will not judge him kindly.

So don't be surprised to see him pulling more PR stunts like these over the next year or so...because this president needs an "image makeover" more than Don Imus and Larry Craig put together.

But it's a little late now, George...

4. I Think we're looking at something different here....
....and the old paradigms may not fit.By most analysis many of the regime are prey to war crime charges, to which the most normal course of action is to REMAIN IN POWER. Loss of privelege for this crew might very well equate to judgement before the Hague, and yet I see a softening. If they ARE softening it is only because they cannot win (which indicates some interesting actions behind the scenes) and are attempting to retrench.

5. I was thinking the exact same thing...
...only with a twist:

yes, these SOB's SHOULD be tried for war crimes, and it is possible (although not likely) that it could happen.

So...you've heard about that big ranch Bush is building in south america? What a perfect place to escape jurisdiction!

Wonder if Bush will spend the rest of his days globe-hopping to avoid prosecution, like Henry Kissinger and all those exiled Nazis who took refuge in Central America and the Carribean after WWII?

Wouldn't surprise me if Bush & co. are OUTTA HERE on Jan. 20, 2009. I mean, Gone with the Wind, baby!

6. I am halfway expecting Cheney to resign....
and Bush to appoint a new VP, someone to become a new Repub "star", ready to run in 2012. Most likely they are writing off 2008.
