Poll question: Are You Scared Of Rethuglicans?
It seems some here live in mortal fear of the Rethuglicans...They think the Rethuglicans are "ten feet tall"... They cower in their bedrooms at night, hiding under the blankets, with their thumbs in their mouthes and sleep with the lights on worrying about the withering attacks the Rethuglicans will unleash on them next...

Well, I'm not one of those kind of Democrats...

Are you scared of Rethuglicans?

1. Can I vote yes and no? On a personal level, the cowards and bullies are
too chickenshit to scare me.

But, with the power they control, I fear for what they have done and can do to destroy this country and the planet. And I am afraid because of the large number of Americans who buy into their shit, enabling them to wreak even more destruction.

that's how Mittens became governor, because there's so few repubs in Mass. you could go weeks without seeing one. sheesh... And the reason for a poll asking if people on DU are cowards towards rethugs? nice. No wonder there's a 1/4 yes's, to be facetiously obnoxious.

I'm afraid of them the same way I'm afraid of stepping in a pile of dog poop. I avoid them when possible, and then make a point to clean up after I've encountered them.

Although I don't ask people if I smell bad after I actually do encounter them-- maybe I should start...

while holding their noses rather than stay home, which will make it harder for us to win. I'm scared that we'll still be a polarized country if Hillary wins, because some/many Repubs. have hated the Clintons for YEARS.

48. Are there really any Schools still segregated in this country?
My kids have gone to umpteen different schools (elem, mid, high)
and every one of them is and was racially mixed. And we live in
an area which has less than 5% minority people and that includes
us. If any thing, the kids from minority races are encouraged
here. So that issue, thankfully is dead and gone.

As for affirmative action, it should be based on need and not color.
Why should a rich minority kid get preference over a poor white kid?
Makes little sense. But I have no clue what Thomas's views are on that.

35. Do "Log Cabin Republicans" ring a bell?
Not to mention that Obama came in third in a REPUB. poll in Iowa a while ago. As I posted in a thread I started maybe a week ago, 80% of Repubs. don't like Hillary while only something like 46% don't like Obama. And you changed your argument from bigots against more than just gay people to now just gay people.

If you want to believe Republicans love Senator Obama there is nothing I can to do to disabuse you of that notion...

And I do appreciate your documentary evidence...The record still shows Ms. Clinton is doing better against her GOP rivals than Mr. Obama and as a Democrat that's all that will ever matter to me:

41. Because We Are Arguing About Such A Minuscule Point
It's like arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin...

If you think Republicans dig Obama please don't let me dissuade you from that belief...In the final analysis the only thing that matters is transferring that affection , if it exists, into electoral success...If he doesn't get the nomination we might never know...

And I stand by my original thesis that Republicans are less friendly, by any metric, to the wants and aspirations of certain non-majorities...It wasn't Democrats putting anti-gay marriage amendments on eleven state ballots in 04 to bolster their base...

42. No we're not...
Repubs., if motivated to vote by a Hillary nomination, can make it VERY difficult for us to win. But I've heard many Repubs. (and it's proven in polls) that many LIKE Obama and his authenticity and uniting message. As Jerry Fallwell said, not even satan himself could energize the Repub. base like Hillary can. I don't want more of the same ol' divisive politics. I like Obama and his positions and his attitude.

But as of now there is nothing to suggest that Obama would be a stronger general election candidate than Hillary Clinton...

Your opinion is Barack Obama would be a stronger general election candidate...I disagree...I think we're at an impasse...

The late Jerry Falwell's great at picking winners...His little crowd did such a good job at beating Bill Clinton... Not...

45. I'll tell you a secret
the reason the republican base hates the Clintons, is because the Clintons kicked their @sses 7 days a week for a long time. Even after they took the House. It drove them crazy. Put any smart competent Democrat in their that can play the game and expect similar noise from the new right wing.

14. The "Democrats are cowards" meme only makes sense if the speaker is scared shitless of Republicans.
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 03:57 PM by Perry Logan
We could open up a whole section at DU for people to call the Democrats in Congress cowards--over and over and over.

But--since Congress is not a knife-fight, and since Republicans are not bad-asses--the statement only reveals the speaker's craven fear of the other side (plus an urgent need to bone up on how laws are passed).

Similarly, the argument that we can't nominate Hillary because this will anger the big, bad Repugs reveals the speaker's terror of the Republican bogeyman more than anything else.

16. Thats a tough question to answer
some days yes and some days no. I'll answer it this way:

If they hold all the power, then yes they scare the bejeezus out of me.

In times where we can muster some opposition then no.

In times where we are in control, I often laugh hysterically.

I look at the mood of the country going into an election as well as polls and some elections are more nervous than others. I answered yes to your poll thinking it was the most honest answer.

One of the things we've seen is how much money can buy in the world of politics without scruples. You can be a complete creep like Coulter and still have a best selling book because big money is willing to buy it up in bulk. Just one of the many, many examples.

36. Yes, because if you just look past the meaningless hyperbole...
....you may come to your senses and start to recall what the republicans have done to this country over the past 10 years or so. If you choose to be so careless to forget all the harm that's been done by that Party to our country, you do so at your peril and mine.

No, I don't cower under my bed about anything, but I'm cognizant enough to have the wisdom to keep the recent past in my immediate rear-view mirror so that I don't get cocky and let my guard down, and I would strongly, emphatically recommend all Democrats who love their country and real liberty (as opposed to the Bush kind) do the same. They're not to be taken lightly. If we get over-confident and reckless they will--not maybe--they will regain power, and things really can get worse than what we've seen under George W. Bush. The Democrats have to stay very careful and use our power judiciously.
