Senator Biden....Take a good hard look, you might like....

This post is not about bashing any other candidates. I refuse to do that, but I would like those of you who are not exactly enthralled by the top tier to take a good hard look at Senator Joe Biden. I read an interesting thread a while back depicting Joe’s first run for the senate. He wasn’t even on the charts, but slowly, surely, and with good organization backing him, he won.

I resent, in a way, the media and many of the Democratic operatives doing their best to foist the top tier candidates on me. I’m no longer interested, they’ve made their game plan known, and for me, the thrill is gone. The top tier have become predictable, hard to believe at times with the promises of everything from immediately stopping the war, pulling out in a year or two, more benefits to the middle-class and so on. It has become rhetoric and doubtful.

I want experience, I want someone who needs no “on the job training”, I want a candidate who knows how to talk and compromise with the other side of the aisle. If thirteen politicos from MA alone saw fit to endorse him, I want to take a second, perhaps third look at Senator Biden. Condoleza Rice could take lessons from this man. Joe is highly respected in the circles of foreign diplomacy, generates interesting and workable new ideas. Senator Biden has been around Washington a long time, he’s overcome staggering obstacles. He has probably forgotten more than we will ever know of what that mess involves and what it will take to clean it up. I like his straight and frank manner, you’re going to hear the bad news along with the good, and he’ll let you know in advance.

An enormous job awaits the new resident going into the WH January, ‘09. Joe knows “who’s good at what”, listens to his constituents and appreciates what they have to say. I’m just saying, if the top tier is no longer “thrilling” you, take a look at Joe. You might like what you see..

2. You speak for me, too, monmouth. I looked good and hard at ALL the candidates - and
was very impressed by what I saw -- but for the reasons you stated above, I was drawn to Biden more so than the others.

I find it somewhat surprising as I probably paid the LEAST attention to Biden when I began my quest. And now - I've said it before and it's true -- I've never been as sure of a candidate in my life.

Go Edwards and then get Biden for a VP

38. That's a good idea
I can't understand, with so much at stake, why so many Democrats want to take on the risk associated with either a Hillary or an Obama candidacy. What'll you say if all those apprehensions about their electability turn out to have been justified? Edwards/Biden would be a rout.

5. Moments ago I almost posted a thread on this but got embarrassed
and decided not to.

I can't for the life of me understand why Joe Biden can't get traction. I liked him in 1984 and I still like him--in fact I like him more now, and I like him better than just about any declared candidate. Vast experience, diplomacy, oratory gifts, true understanding of how to negotiate a withdrawal from imbecilic wars.

And he also has true character and sincerity.

Just my two cents.

6. You answered your own question.
How can you buy off someone that has character and sincerity, coupled with experience, diplomacy, oratory gifts, true understanding of how to negotiate a withdrawal from imbecilic wars.

No way is the liberal media gonna push him.

27. Thank you
I just wish I wasn't so alone in this. It's interesting, because I was just talking to my father today about Biden, and he said he liked him too and didn't like being "strong armed" into supporting Clinton. But he likes Obama too, and so does my mother.

I like Obama, but I feel he would be more useful in the senate until he is more seasoned.

Biden is just a role model to me, a great American, and has accumulated real wisdom through all he has been through.

28. I understand how you feel
When I became more active here about a month ago, I was reluctant to bring up Biden's name. Then I found a supporter who was outspoken and I decided to speak my mind. Within a very short time we found more Biden supporters and as you can see it has grown steadily since then.

I like your two cents!

13. I was very impressed
before the invasion, when he seemed to be very skeptical in Senate hearings about the advisability of the war, the cost and how long the occupation would take, etc.

Then I was profoundly dissappointed when he voted for the IWR.

Since then, I must admit he has rehabilitated himself somewhat by a thoughtful and nuanced approach to ending the American occupation, emphasizing diplomatic initiatives involving Turkey, Syria and Iran.

Has he made a public explanation of the IWR vote? Also, where does he stand in emphasis and proposals on the global climate crisis?

14. He has explained it...
... On "Meet The Press" this summer, to my satisfaction. Also there is this GREAt video of him on the Senate last Spring floor pleading republicans to get us out, and he touches on how we went in and what the initial mission was about:

God sent this country Joe Biden. How I pray we accept and embrace him. We can be great again, so long as we elect the right person. Joe Biden is the only person right for the job.

Americans finally realizing the facts. Joe Biden is the only man for the job of President of our United States. Americans are noticing a lot more about our candidates than Just all the Hype the are being force fed. Facts stand up for themselves. Joe Biden's history and long standing experience in the Senate, his history meeting with all the world's leaders, his life spent in public service getting things done....when the facts are tallied - all will see who is the most qualified for the job.

17. I've listened to it now.
And I agree with almost everything he said. But I didn't hear any rationale for his vote. I'm not sure I ever have.

I have heard HRC's rationale occasionally and Edwards' apology. Does Biden have a written explanation saying whether or not his vote was a mistake?

Everyone who has seen it was blown away. It is his speech to the IAFF and received five standing ovations.

16. Off the top of my head:

Sponsored Senate resolution in 2007 pressing Bush to curb climate change.

Co-sponsored the "Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act" of 2007

Sponsored funding for research and development into ion batteries for automobiles

I THINK I saw an environmental rating which was encouragingly positive. I do know he's extremely concerned about the environment. He's the only candidate I've heard even mention rising ocean levels - usually all we hear about is gas mileage and emissions. He realizes it's far more than that.

Any position on accelerating world talks from 2012 to 2010? Any position on ElectraNet or carbon freeze?

20. I'm not aware of moving up the world talks, nor have I heard anything on
ElectraNet or carbon freeze -- could you explain those to me? I've never heard of them! (Good thing I'm not in the running!)

I HAVE found that when Biden has been asked varied questions he has always responded in a manner that indicates he is aware of the topic, has studied it, and has given thought to how best to accomplish the desired results. It's possible he has views on the talks and ElectraNet and carbon freeze - but I honestly just don't know.

25. I did some research on this several months ago - and this is what I found.
(I can't find the link - but I will keep looking and will post it if I find it)

In a nutshell -

Biden was going to vote against it.
Being the head Dem of the SFRC he was in a meeting with Bush, Cheney and the rest.
Biden told Bush that the only way he would vote for it is if Bush promised him that he would let the inspectors do their job, and then go to the UN before he invaded. Bush looked him in the eye and said he would.
Biden's mistake? He believed the President of the United States,

Senator Biden.

Whether as president or as Secretary of State, I would feel better about my U.S. citizenship if he were in an active and influential role in our next government.

As opposed to how I feel now under the current pack of corrupt fools.
