Yes, it's unfortunate that McClurkin has horrible opinions on homosexuality and is in no way anywhere near the opinion of Obama's voting record and dialogue about LGBT issues, but him singing on one night with three other acts does not appear to be what some have insinuated a "gay bash tour", support for homophobia or in any way a standard that Obama is trying to set.

If people think that is true, they are simply liars.

I do hope that Byron Cage takes McClurkin's place on the Columbia, SC event or that Barack Obama brings up the issue when he speaks at that event.

2. McClurkin is a vile, disgusting hatemongering bigot.
He's appearing on a tour sponsored by the Obama campaign.

If you don't see or attempt to understand what a problem that is for Obama, how that is a slap in the face to GLBT people, I don't know I can explain it to you.

12. Look on Hillary's web site of homophobe who endorsed her
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=2857

The difference between some dude who has a gig one night with three other acts hardly compares to a devout homophobic endorser of Hillary Clinton that they proudly have on the web site.

Don't ask certain Hillary fans to see a difference. They would rather lie to us than tell the truth. Sounds very Clintonian to me...

13. Look over there! A homophobe endorsed CLINTON!
The difference, of course, is that you provide an example of a homophobe endorsing Clinton, while everyone else is referring to the unfortunate case of Obama endorsing a homophobe.

15. How is he endorsing the fellow by having him sing a song or two
Aslong as the idiot does his song and nothing else then i see nothing wrong with him singing as he actually helps democrats in that instance, now if he were to suddenly start talking about his views i'd have a problem

16. Accepting the endorsement is telling. But of course, 2/3 of the people attacking Obama do it for
purely partisan reasons.

I respect the other third, who actually cares and is disappointed, but the weird thing is that they are a lot less virulent and a lot more articulate than the Clinton people here.

18. I wonder which is worse:
Having a homophobic guy - due to childhood trauma - sing one night or

party with Rupert Murdoch, buddy up with Drudge, and be the darling of the neocons?

23. I promised I wouldn't weigh in on this but I do have a quibble with your post
Childhood trauma is no excuse for hatred and bigotry. I've noticed this used as a justification for homophobia many times in my life. About 20 years ago I dated a guy who matter-of-factly stated that all gays should be lined up and shot. Turned out he had been raped as a child. I told him that while I had the utmost sympathy for what happened to him I found his view inexcusable. I pointed out that the majority of child and adult rape victims are female and the perpetrators are overwhelmingly male. Yet I don't see too many similarly victimized women espousing violent, murderous hatred toward the entire population of heterosexual males. Not saying it never happens but not nearly to the extent that would be warranted, based on his reasoning. He responded that I had a good point and that he'd never thought about it that way.

Donnie McClurkin is clearly a deeply conflicted man who desperately needs therapy and a safe space to be who he is. Unfortunately, he got a heavy dose of toxic shame-based dogmatic ideology that only served to compound his misery. However, he is a grown man who is deliberately choosing to project his issues onto people who don't deserve it and to publicly perpetuate intolerance.

Please don't help to promote the myth that anyone is justified in being a bigot because of something that happened to them. McClurkin is a bigot because of bigotry, not trauma.
