Not that I think it should matter but a fairly neutral guy on another board I frequent asked about this:

Note, I know it's from a RW site and I apologize. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this. Full disclosure: I'm pulling for either Obama or Edwards.

1. I have not heard anything except on the usual RW site. Also interesting to note: remember the noise
about Obama not wearing the flag pin.

At the last Republican debate, half of the candidates did not wear it!

3. I know
and I understand the pin thing but then he had to explain himself and turned it into an issue. I wish dems would understand that we need to be above reproach on this kind of stuff so that it's not "on the table".

11. Yes, we must repeat rw bullshit criticisms of
Democrats, because it's their fault that the rw spreads bullshit criticisms.

5. I don't do it either.
I spent all those decades SALUTING when they played the doggone song. I have to stop myself from so doing nowadays--it's an automatic initial response (how Pavlovian, woof, woof!).

It's a silly thing to gripe about. But that's what RW sites DO. Especially when they have NUTTIN' else, they play the "patriotism/not a REAL American" card....

6. Raw Story just posted the story with video.
The video shows him singing the national anthem.

This was discussed several weeks ago here. I looked up information about the correct procedure. You put your hand over your heart when you say the pledge of allegiance or you're facing the flag. No one is facing the flag, so there's no point in putting your hand over your heart.

Of course, this is National Obama Outrage Month for rightwingers and liberals, so this becoming yet another issue against Obama doesn't surprise me.

Whatever.

9. Although Obama is not my first guy, I think his mind was wandering,
the man, along with the rest of them are tired and that's it. They are ranting about it over there and I just laughed. Time to cut him some slack here...

12. Technically, isn't facing away from the flag during the anthem disrespectful?
It's much ado about...

14. If it were the Pledge I would wonder but
the National Anthem? I have never done this and don't know anyone who does. Obama could wrap himself in a flag, hold his hand on the Bible, paint his hair red, white and blue and the knee-jerk fanatical right would still not vote for him. Personally I think Obama's honesty about phony patriotism is refreshing.
