The Obama campaign has scheduled a conference call with campaign manager David Plouffe and other top aides to re-assure gay donors and other backers who are angry at the inclusion of a gospel singer hostile to homosexuality, Donnie McClurken, in Obama's South Carolina gospel tour, one supporter advised of the call said.

"They're trying to put out the fire," said the gay Obama supporter of the call planned for this evening. He said he hoped heads would roll. "Somebody made the decision and somebody approved the decision," the supporter said. "The question is, Will he hold someone accountable?"

I doubt anything would change the minds of some eviscerating him here.

This whole thing makes sad on a number of levels.

Some people need to be disinvited and a head or two needs to roll. And as Bluebear said, we'd be thrilled. I'm a constituent of Senator Obama...and as a gay Democrat and Illinoisan, I'm not really happy right now. And it is sad.

I hope he tosses McClurkin off the tour.

The whole point of a thing like this is that mistakes happen, but it should be automatic to know the right thing to do to fix it.

The fact that Obama has had so much trouble getting this right demonstrates that this was not a campaign error, it was a campaign strategy.

There is no balance to be struck in a Democratic primary. In a general election, sure. But in a Dem primary the candidate should fucking CHOSE whether the is going after gay people or a segment of anti-gay black southern religious people, and stick with it.

You cannot have both constituencies simply because you have a high opinion of yourself.

This is the audacity of audacity. Real egomania. His call to unity boils down to "everybody should love me, then we'll all be unified."
