What is the single most important thing you want....

To see done in the following presidential term?

Keep in mind the first two years of any term can be linked to the previous president, due to the time it takes our red tape to let things through in government...on the same note the time it takes to actually affect a change.

In other words, if you could focus on just ONE thing you would want to see happen (No, not the election itself) after we have a new president...

What would that ONE thing be?

10. Yup.
We are going to have a much tougher time as Americans trying to do things ourselves. Many of our problems are going to need outside help. We need to repair those bridges with all the countries of the world so that as the dollar ceases to be the world's trading currency we can build new trading relationships and map out a productive economic role in the world economy. Without that, our country will continue to descend down into debt and insolvency, and NONE of the other issues will be solvable.

8. Complete and effective
campaign and election reform. Other than that there are too many things truly crying out for immediate attention for me to stupidly pick one above the others and keep my fingers crossed. Restoration of our chance to have democracy(not a guarantee we will be wonderful at it) is the first shift to counter everything destructive. That is why I also can't delineate the perfect set of reforms, just that they better be pretty damn foolproof and effective.

strengthening unions, and to address all the places in the "free market" where costs are allocated heavily on the poor, middle and working class, and the benefits are all confered on people who are doing really well (like, the way people pay for higher education, energy, homes and health insurance).

18. End the war.
That must be the first priority because of the continued loss of life, our utter lack of credibility on the world stage, and the huge sums of money that it steals from programs to rebuild this nation and its people. After that, we can get on with repealing the tax cuts, universal health care, equality for all citizens, and becoming a better educated nation.

22. Environmental protection
Introduction of a new and effective environmental policy, in addition to strengthening all of our existing environmental laws and ratification of the Kyoto Protocols.

This is my priority, regardless of who eventually gets the Democratic nomination (and hence, the White House in 2008 :) ).
