Feingold sponsors Arbitration Fairness Act of 2007
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 12:50 PM by Alhena
this sounds like a great- and hugely needed- piece of legislation for consumers. Which makes me skeptical that the same Congress which passed the Bankruptcy "Reform" Act will approve it. Most don't know how devastating arbitration has become for consumers, but this isn't on the radar screen of Joe Six Pack. And you can bet that every business interest in the country will be lobbying against it- this one unites big and small business, credit card companies, doctors (who are just now starting to join the arbitration party), among others. Businesses are routinely including arbitration "agreements" into the fine print of every kind of contract imaginable and courts- especially federal courts- have been only too happy to enforce them.

And the bill only seems to have a few co-sponsors in the Senate so far. So I won't get my hopes up on this one.
