Quotes that denote I am feeling about some things right now.
A quote from Tony Benn, replacing "Democratic Party" for "Labour Party"

"The Democratic Party seems unwilling to share a Democratic vision with people... It is true that on polling day the Democratic Party remains the proper alternative to the Republican Party and I will continue to campaign for the Democratic Party until I die. But it has lost it's interest in change." -- Tony Benn with some editing.

"The Enrons of the world are well represented in Washington." -- Sen. Paul Wellstone

"Homophobia is a straight people's problem. Its up to straight people to straighten their problem out." -- ChipperbackDemocrat.

"Son, if you don't fight for what you want, you earn what you get." -- ChipperbackDemocrat's grandfather.

"A black man voting republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Saunders." -- my grandfather.

2. Don't be so hard on ol' J.C.
I've interview J.C. Watts, not a bad man...He just chose the wrong crowd to run with.

My grandfather was an old school FDR-type. I get a lot of my politics from him. Took me to a polling place when I was 6 and told me..."When you get old enough, you'll be doing this. You'll be insulting a lot of people who gave up a lot for you if you don't."

3. I respect the man's father, but I don't have much respect for him.
He sold out, and when he couldn't take it anymore, he bailed out.

Cognitive dissonance. You can only live with it for so long.

4. But that's the new RNC strategy
The Republicans are going after black votes. Notice that you are seeing more black faces on the news shows touting the GOP talking points. It makes me white-hot pissed to see it, but I understand why.

They believe that can create another fissure to make their rule absolute...and we play into their hands with this one. That is why things like this whole McClurkin mess, bothers me.

Never mind that Republican policies ain't done anything to help Black church-going folks (like me.) or any Black folks.

I'm more concerned with having health care, job and development than Two Men Kissin'.

A post a few days ago opposed the view that "black folk oughta know better." I can understand why the author said what they said...but at the same time, I'm black and I think we oughta know better.

When ever I see Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist, or any other of their ilk trying to give me a "soul handshake" I'm running the other way. The GOP has no soul, and you don't know where that hand has been.

5. If they go after them, and get them, well, there ya go. A voter who would vote
for an offshoring, war-without-end Republican because he hates gays isn't someone who's a good fit for our Big Tent, anyway. Our tent has all the room in the world, but not for homophobes.

Hell, for every person of color who is a hater that we lose, we'll probably pick up a few Log Cabiners.

I'm not "scared" of that GOP strategy. And I am glad that you aren't either. Most of us aren't. They can try it all they want, but I can't see it working. The black voter is better informed on the issues than the population as a whole. And knowledge is power--about the only 'one issue' that might move that voting bloc to override other concerns would be personal, astoundingly favorable economic promises, and the GOP doesn't have much of those for the bulk of us, save something that 'trickles down' on us and smells a bit funny.
