Almost everyday now we hear Rush or Ann or Michelle or all three call a child or a soldier or a widow some really awful name like "phony" or "cheat" or "liar" or "stinkier than stinky tofu." They are supported by the second stringers, Glenn Beck, O'Reilly and a bunch of others whose job is to make asses of themselves by saying really unforgivable things that will get left wing and mainstream America so upset that valuable news time (and DU time) is spent ranting about how awful the right wing is and how something ought to be down about it etc. However, the distraction brigade can always claim Freeedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press when it gets too hot in the kitchen. Then, they get to go dream up some more media distractions to use the next time the Republicans or the Bush administration would rather people at home not think about how badly the war is going in Iraq or how Cheney is poking a stick at Iran or how the current Attorney General nominee seems to be approving the use of torture or how W. keeps vetoing SCHIP (approved of by 85% of the American people).
So, here is my modest suggestion. Whenever Rush or Ann or Michelle makes one of their stupider than stupid tofu remarks about some quadriplegic veteran or some autistic child or a 90 year old widow living on Social Security, instead of raising awareness of Rush, Ann or Michelle, try raising awareness of one of the important social issues that plague our country. Give some money to a Democratic candidate in your area. Or a worthy social cause. Write a letter to the editor about torture or the war.
Remember, there is no such thing as bad publicity for comediennes like Rush, Ann, Michelle and their breed. The thing they fear most is being ignored. Their job is to distract you. They take up valuable airtime on Countdown that could be spent talking about issues that affect the day to day lives of Americans, like the growth of telecommunications monopolies and the health care crisis and the erosion of our civil liberties and the possibility of war with Iran or Turkey.
