2. This is just one day away, now!
A huge event is bubbling up in Minneapolis, potentially becoming the premier event for progressives in the Midwest.

People are making plans to come from neighboring states, some from far away.

Music, laughter, unity - featuring the soul of the Progressive movement in American politics today, Representative Dennis Kucinich.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear and see Dennis lay out a post-W future for America and the world.

Get here any way you can.

Hope Begins

8. He was just on Minnesota Public Radio
And although he was speaking from the Cleveland airport, he still did well.

However, there was a discussion after the interview with DK, and I was amazed by the number of very supportive folk who called in. There were a few who dismissed him with the usual arguments ("too liberal", "unelectable", etc.), but overall the calls were very supportive-- even those from folk I didn't immediately recognize!

It's gonna be a great time this weekend-- wish you all could be there!

6. And if you don't want to bother with parking
take MTC buses #6 or #16, both of which pass within a couple of blocks of Northrop Auditorium.

Get off the #16 in front of Coffman Union, get on the opposite side of the street from Coffman, and walk down the mall to Northrop, which is the building at the end of the mall.

The #6 will take you along University Avenue, behind Northrop, so just get off around 14th or 15th Ave. Southeast and ask anyone where Northrop is. (I don't remember the exact directions.)

Sorry, NNNS! :hi:

I'll be at the National Lawyers' Guild dinner, too, so if you guys stick around I can meet up with you there.

Otherwise, look for a 5'10" "woman of a certain age" with glasses, a red blazer, and a black computer bag. I may be helping out in some capacity.

42. No offense at all!
I'm still not completely clear on what I'm doing tomorrow-- I may need to loan out the PA again, but I'm not 100% certain.

It looks like I'll arrive at Northrup some time around noon to help out, wearing my blue Kucinich shirt of course!

Also, I've cut off most of my hair since last you've seen me. That's right, after five years I decided to cut it all off and donate it to Locks of Love. But it's still me, just with spiky hair instead of the long ponytail!

16. I'd be thrilled to meet up with DUers!
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 03:10 PM by scarletwoman
I started a thread last week (too early, I guess) asking if MN DUers would like to get together after the rally, hoping someone would come up with a likely location. I'm travelling down from 100 miles away, and I really don't know the Cities well enough to come up with a suggestion myself.

But I really would LOVE to have a get-together! I've met a few MN DUers already, from a gathering we had way back in 2002, but it would be great to meet some more!

Also, anyone know more about the Saturday night party at the "House of
Balls"? This is what I got by email:

Party!
• Date: February 21, 2004
• Place: House of Balls, 212 3rd Ave. N., Minneapolis
• Time: 8:00 p.m.
• Join all the Minnesota for Kucinich volunteers, Dennis Kucinich (hopefully), and hundreds of supporters for
performance, art, fire, and more.

Like, what the heck IS the House of Balls?

17. Club and Art Gallery in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis
It looks like a really cool place, although I haven't been there before (and how could it NOT be a cool place with all these great people there).

Also, it looks like Dennis is pretty much a YES to the House of Balls event.

Anyway, here's a website that might give you more of a feel for what kind of place this is:
http://www.sweet-mystery.com/W/HOUSE%20OF%20BALLS/FOYER.html

Here, you can get more information, including a link to a map, and get more of a sense of this cool place in the warehouse district of Minneapolis.

See you there!

Looks really artsy-cool. I don't think I'll make it, unfortunately -- it's a long trip back home and I have to be up early in the morning (5am) for work on Sunday (*sigh*). Which is why I really like the idea of a DU get-together right after the Northrop rally.

So, anyone with any more thoughts on an apres-Northrop meetup?

I've got to move on to the dinner, but I'd be willing to have a quick cup of coffee with assembled DUers.

39. I think that would ensure that anarchy would erupt
Nah, doing more staid work. I'll be picking up the energy after the big speakers and directing it towards:

1) Putting money in the envelopes, and

2) Showing up on March 2nd and casting a "Presidential Preference Ballot" for DK.

So if things turn out, I'll be on stage, but in a purely "speaking" role. ;-)

I'm a little nervous, actually.

40. Gotcha.
Yeah, I missed the chorus rehearsal for Russell's song on Monday (wife's birthday-- her 35th) and I haven't been able to get hold of him since. I dunno if he still needs voices or instruments for it, but I'll come "prepared" regardless.

I don't have any "formal" role (other than updating the web site), but I'll probably show up early at Northrup and pitch in in any way I can. Koochstock-- Love the Name!!!!

Despite the 8 start time be forewarned that my understanding is that Kucinich not likely to be there until 9:30 at earliest, more likely 10:00 or so. He will be giving NLG social justice dinner key note in South St. Paul after an 8:00 presentation of awards.

I'm in no band at all.

My musical talents are aspirational in nature only.

Although I did write "I Will Knock 500 Doors" for the Minnesota campaign.

The lyrics are on a website I posted in the other thread.

Nope, I'm more of a writer than a musician.

Wish you could be here in Minneapolis. I hope this event proves to be incredible.

Every time he inpires me more.

He's codified the progressive platform, got thousands of people participating again or for the first time, and done more than any politician in my lifetime to make the Democratic Party a viable second party.

See Lydia's very detailed thread for a report.
