"the Children" It's adults that are going to jail. It just makes me want to puke . I can't help it; from being an edwards supporter, now I feel towards him like obama supporters feel about Hillary

19. It's not up to the President
This needs to be addressed by a joint session of congress.

Any deal is likely to be hammered out in smoke filled back rooms.

Anyway, he is looking good to me as well, though for my main issue (non-Halliburtons), Edwards is still my guy thus far.

Who are you going to vote for in the general? Are you going to sit home and sulk if it's Edwards and allow another GOP to get in?

The drug war will continue as long as white suburban parents think it's a good thing.

And I abhor the "think of the children" crap that gets flung so the people can support whatever the candidate is talking about.

But I still strongly support Edwards, and will proudly vote for him in the primary.

32. But a serious candidate would call for a fresh look at the issue
"getting high" from pot compares, and compares *favorably*, I might ad, with "getting high" from alcohol. The cost of our current system is more than we can bear.

THAT is a point that any candidate could point out, and get a collective sigh of relief from most Americans for having said it.

...for our kids and grandkids ~ but I'd rather have my kids smoke a little pot than drink, and I think it's amazingly hypocritical that drunk drivers get off with a slap on the wrist while kids caught with a stash are tossed into jail.

36. I don't like it, but I understand the answer.
Sadly, talk of decriminalizing pot doesn't go along well with the general electorate. Many politicians probably don't give their real opinion on this issue. Edwards, like most of this side of the field, has been supportive of medicinal marijuana, which is about as far as I'd expect a presidential candidate that is playing to win will go on this issue.

I'm used to it though, as same-sex marriage gets similar treatment.

39. His statement is reflecting a political reality
Parents who think their kids are less likely to smoke pot because it's illegal vote in high enough numbers that the war on pot will continue.

Until we think of a way to change political reality you're not going to see anything different.
