Why are our three top candidates also the three most unelectable?
Alternate thread title: Why aren't any of my favorite candidates leading???

A black guy, a woman, and a fast-blinking lawyer! Why do we always make it so difficult for ourselves? If bushcheney wasn't such an unmitigated disaster we'd have no hope at all of winning.

How come Biden, Dodd, or Kucinich aren't the top three contenders? Is it part of the ongoing conspiracy or are we really that dumb? Somebody sell me a clue!

14. Not since LBJ
has a Democrat running for President received 50% of the white male vote.

The OP was part tongue-in-cheek. It is quite possible this election will end that deplorable streak but the white male demographic still dominates.

We Democrats just can't help ourselves. We love pushing the envelope and pushing our luck. Guess that's always been the only way things get better.

That said, if Republicans win in 2008 this country is finished.

5. I'll be honest
I was worried about this too, about 1 year ago. But since then I have seen what professional politicking is, I think you have to give some credit to the black guy and the woman, less to the fast blinking lawyer probably.

6. What's most bizarre is the number of issues on which the top tier
agree, essentially. This makes the flamewars between adherents of the 3 especially absurd. It's not unlike screamfests about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. I'll take your proposed top 3 in a heartbeat over these 3.

10. I did two months ago.
A month ago, I hoped he would be the VP candidate.
Now, I hope they make him Sec'y of State. The man has got to be the worst campaigner/debater in history. I have no idea how he managed to have racked up so many successes beforehand, given his acute case of foot-in-mouth disorder.

8. That's funny, because it's our top three that are doing best in head-to-heads.
Or, that is to say, it is our top three who are the most electable. Sorry if you feel ooky about voting for a woman or a black guy, but it seems most people don't.

13. Well maybe most people had better start looking at the issues and
what these people are saying. The real issues don't even fly very well here on DU very well.

STOP the damn war! Impeach Cheney/bu$h and the rest of this criminal government and try them for their war crimes before they start WWIII!
Don't forget Health Care, employment- meaning good paying jobs, education, inflation and whatever else I forgot that has been short changed in the last 7 years.

Now, just where do the Dem candidates stand on these issues? Do we really know? Not really because they are not talked about in any meaningful way. Either the candidate is ignored or the subjects are not brought up when they should be.

16. Ooky?
I don't feel "ooky" at all. Just pointing out that most white males probably do according to historical voting patterns.

What's the matter with white folks? http://www.lipmagazine.org/articles/feat_wise_whitefolks_p.htm

12. Yeah, the whole nation is eager and waiting for Kucinich.
And thanks for calling us dumb. And conspirators. That's real nice.

HARD to believe that other people may be aware of something you just can't see. Or, sadly, ever will.

But keep insulting us in the name of your candidates. That's a real winner.

18. It's not us--it's them!
Given that your original post was in good part tongue-in-cheek, I have a couple objections to your line of reasoning. The first is that you're not parallel in your characterizations. It should be a black guy, a woman, and a white guy.

Second--and more important--is that we're the problem for liking such candidates--candidates who are not assembled by some media hack for their appeal to an electorate who chooses a president like they choose a laundry detergent. Or whether they'd like to have a beer with him.

We are not the problem for seeing that some of our candidates would make a good president. We are not the problem that Kucinich is a mensch instead of a manly man paper doll in a leather jacket and a codpiece.

Cher
