While the Dem candidates are busy attacking each other, the GOP is rising from the dead
The month of September was glorious for head to head matchups, all of the Dem Big 3 were ahead of all the GOP, in many cases thumping the shit out of them.

Now we have two recent polls, Rasmussen and Quinnipiac showing Rudy nearly even or ahead of our candidates with Thompson and McCain making gains.

This ain't some call for kumbaya but a reminder of who the real enemy is and a caution against overconfidence.

1. It was ok to batter the frontrunner in 04
And it is ok now.

If Rudy is moving up in the polls, it is the result of his extreme hawkishness and the media being the drumbeater to war.

14. I'd say that the lack of a strong voice fighting ...
Against the next round of war is helping Rudy. Nothing makes for an easy victory like a lack of opposition.

We need our front runner beating the drums to end this insane policy of aggression ... or we need a new front runner.

2. Ack. Hopefully a blip. If THOMPSON is making gains, being a corpse and all, things
are looking shaky.

3. You do know
that the election is NEXT November, don't you? This is a time for Dems and Reps to hash out who they want representing them. And I don't lockstep very well.

7. Who is asking for lockstep?
I think we need to start getting out the dirt on the GOP now so it seeps into the public conscience.

That can be done while still fighting each other.

The trick is not to get so wrapped up in the primary battle that we forget who the fight is truly against.

Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 12:10 PM by LakeSamish706
Why should I vote for a Hillary? Will she take us into a war with Iran? Is she cozied up to big corporations? Will she really bring our troops home from Iraq ASAP? Will she restore the US to the state that it was in prior to the Bush Administration taking control. Can she win a GE against a Guiliani, or Romney, etc.? Will she restore the things that the middle class have given up in the last 7 years? Will she bring border security and get our Illegal Alien situation under control?

"Why should I vote for a Hillary?"

A few weeks ago I did supporter threads for every candidate, see if they help you out.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3614351

Also feel free to review her website, http://www.hillaryclinton.com/

Also there's project vote smart which breaks down her votes, interest group ratings etc,

http://www.vote-smart.org/bio.php?can_id=55463

"Will she take us into a war with Iran?"

I very much doubt it.

"Is she cozied up to big corporations?"

Here is open secrets which publishes fundraising figures. http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/index.asp?cycle=2008

Feel free to see who is giving her money and compare it with what she has done in the Senate and what she has talked about during this campaign and you can make up your own mind.

"Will she really bring out troops home from Iraq ASAP?"

I believe she will start bringing troops home immediately upon taking office. When will they all be home? That I am unsure of.

"Will she restore the US to the state that it was in prior to the Bush Administration taking control."

Well the Bush admin has done alot of damage but I think Hillary can do much to reverse the damage. Firing all the Bushies in the DOJ would be a good start.

"Can she win a GE against a Guiliani, or Romney, etc.?"

She is competitive in head to head polling with Rudy now while protecting the Dems left flank in the Northeast (Rudy does very well vs other Dems) and Romney is getting killed by all of the big 3. I think she would win a GE mathcups with some potential for landslide depending on the GOP nominee.

"Will she restore the things that the middle class has given up in the last 7 years?"

I believe her healthcare plan, help for college and her gov't 401K are all steps to help the middle class in direct ways. Balancing the budget and paying down the debt are indirect ways.

"Will she bring border security and get our Illegal Alien situation under control?"

Hillary does not believe in walls and is not for a guest worker program. She is for paths to citizenship and going after employers taking advantage of undocumented workers.

17. We're in primary season, not the GE...
There will be time for that, once we Dems figure out where the party is going and who best represents us ~ that's the decision we have to make now.

20. It removes the electability arguments that plaugued the 2004 race.
If all of the big 3 are beating the GOP than the race comes down to issues and the individual candidate vs. arguments about electability.

Though I have argued Edwards may be unelectable because of the financial disadvantage he has put himself in by going with public financing that is not part of polling.

23. I was shocked to see McCain's numbers on the rise
especially here in NM.

The poll results show Hillary down, but one poll was done with Al Gore and he handily beat the Repub...and that is beFORE he announces. His numbers will only go up from here.

in New Mexico:
Data Collected: 10/12/2007 - 10/14/2007
Release Date: 10/22/2007 9:15 AM ET
48% Giuliani
47% Clinton
6% Undecided

50% McCain
43% Clinton
6% Undecided

45% Giuliani
49% Gore
6% Undecided

and then in
IOWA

43% Giuliani
48% Clinton
9% Undecided

42% Giuliani
51% Gore
7% Undecided
