Funny thing about the new Edwards ad
The funny thing is, I've been leaning Edwards for the past couple of months. With this ad(unwarranted, in my opinion), underlining Edwards commitment to negative campaigning, I may start leaning away from Edwards.

1. I didn't think he said or did anything negative with that ad at all. It was perfectly fair.
He didn't distort or twist any of Hillary's words. Not at all.

4. Looked to me
like a swiftboat ad. The same ad could've been made about any candidate. Short clips can't reveal what point a candidate is trying to make.

20. Not correct at all. Unlike Kerry, this is all from the same debate.
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 01:59 PM by jsamuel
with answers within two minutes of each other (not fine - shows dishonesty/distortion). The attack on Kerry was just showing that he changed his mind over a long period of time (fine - shows growth).

This is about the issues. Clinton thinks it is more viable to not say what she thinks than to say what she thinks. That way, she looks great to everyone. The problem is that the issues get distorted this way. Who knows what she really thinks?

30. It is the same. It's a collection of sound bites
put together to distort what the candidate is saying.

"Clinton thinks it is more viable to not say what she thinks than to say what she thinks. That way, she looks great to everyone. The problem is that the issues get distorted this way. Who knows what she really thinks?"

Again, I'm not going to sit here and defend Hillary, but show me one of the frontrunners who doesn't try to look great to everyone.

31. This is simply Clinton herself speaking. The distortion is coming from her.
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 03:00 PM by jsamuel
Not the ad.

It is a collection of what she said at the debate. Even those at the debate said the same thing. She is giving contradictory answers to the questions. All the ad does is put those contradictory answers next to each other.

36. Then why not put her whole answer
to the question in the ad instead of a few words from different sentences? That would be the thing to do if he was questioning her stance on an issue. Bits and pieces of answers don't reflect what she was trying to say - it forces the viewer to the opinion of the ad. If viewers could hear the whole context of the question and answer, they could make their own mind up about whether she was waffling or not.

35. The primaries are for discussion of issues
not to smear candidates who are on the same side of the isle. This tactic was born under the Bush/Rove style of politics. I don't think it should be used on members of your own party.

how is comparing video, all from the exact same night and the exact same debate, of hillary's own words a smear?

principle is more important than party.

5. I'm not for Clinton or Edwards, but I asgree with the OP - I think Clinton's
responses in this debate have been really misrepresented. I think she's been treated unfairly, and I was surprised at that Edwards ad, too.

I'm not attempting to besmirch Edwards -- I would feel the same way regardless of who issued the ad. If this had been Biden's ad, I'd be very displeased and might have to reconsider my support of him too. I don't like what it indicates about Edwards.

11. Yup.
And as an Edwards supporter who is probably shifting to Hillary, that makes your guy my second choice right now.

I have been watching Biden, Clinton and Edwards carefully. I think they would all make good presidents, but HOW they choose to get there matters to me, so i've kept it fluid. This was a bad choice for Edwards, IMO.

6. I agree. And it made me more than lean away.
He does a wonderful ad in Iowa and then posts this other thing online which twists some very easy to understand positions into something it isn't. He's smart enough to understand what she said, and is trying to get milage out of debate created sound bites. It's not different than a lot other political candidates would do, but not OK with me.

21. If a few words are each taken from a series of sentences
any meaning can be implied.
In the SS part of the ad - she stated she wouldn't implement her plan until it is fisccally responsible, yet it was portrayed as waffling.
Our candidates shouldn't be using these types of ads against each other-it will only hurt our chances next year.

that's what the primaries are for, however, there's no need for smear ads against our own team.

I'm not going to sit here and defend Hillary because I haven't made a decision yet, but how specific do you want her to be? The issues on her website look specific enough for me in primary season.

the ridiculous hair cut stories and fake affair stories the corporate media has used to try to derail the Edward's campaign? These are substantive policy issues that need to be answered. Edwards has given clear answers, whether you agree or disagree with his positions. Senator Clinton has continually avoided answering these questions.

19. And I've tried defending Edwards on the hair and house
non-issues. I agree with most of his positions. The ad has nothing to do with issues that need to be answered - it is a collection of clips put together to smear. The repubs use this same tactic against us - we don't need to be using it against ourselves.
This is the most important election in my lifetime. It may save or completely destroy this country. I would be happy to have any of our candidates as the Dem nominee, I just don't support our candidates using these types of ads against each other.

I'm so glad that FINALLY someone is putting a mirror up to Hillary and her triangulating, parsing ways. You can't talk out of both sides of your mouth and expect to get away with it forever.

Again, all this talk of "smears" etc. is laughable. Really, someone call a Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance for old Hills and her supporters. If they can't take this little ditty, imagine what will happen in the General ! Keep up the good work Mr. Edwards, and thank you for highlighting yet another of Hillary's troubling traits before the Primaries. We need all this ( and MORE ) to be aired now, before it is too late.

Your statements were essentially the same as the Bush battle cry "you're either with us or against us".

That's all you can add is accusations?

Automatically assuming I'm not really an Edwards supporter, betting "big money" -- because I don't like the tactics his campaign is using?

Not a "hillbot", BTW. Search for my posts that say otherwise.
