So, it's okay for the white male to sing his own praises for hundreds of years...
...establishing white boys' clubs in every realm of American culture ~ but it's unacceptable for women or blacks to even speak about their gender or race???

This is completely absurd ~ the only ones whining are the guys who are threatened by a change in status quo. Buck up boys!

2. That's what Tucker Carlson says...
He insists he can't understand why her being a woman is ANYthing to even mention. And I guess like Colbert, he's also colorblind, but I'm sure somebody told him Obama is black.

4. Tucker is so crazy!
I've written him emails explaining the significance of having a female president ~ and also suggesting that he might get it if only he yanked his head out of his ass. :)

8. Hillary talked about gender at Wellesley, in a wonderful way I think...
Her campaign did the "politics of pile-on" thing ~ but did they say it was about gender, or about being the frontrunner?

11. Even IF that were true, so what?
The purpose of a campaign is to win. If they're trying to get more voters on her side, well hello -- it's a political campaign, not a cotillion. A lot worse things are done to garner votes (like smearing other candidates, for example).

7. I'm just amazed at how the talking heads are carrying on about this...
...whining about Hillary's girl-to-girl talk at Wellesley and Obama's preacher-like rhetoric about whether the U.S. is ready for an African American president ~ as if white guys haven't been doing this sort of thing together for hundreds of years.

16. I don't have a candidate either...
And it doesn't really matter, since I live in a late primary state. Sometimes I'm amused at all the fighting over candidates at DU when so few of us will have a vote in the matter.

9. Watching Hardball tonight was a quintessential " through the
looking glass" experience. Mathews was ranting, as only he can do, about Hillary playing the gender card and how bad that is. Then he gushed over Obama's black preacher cadence while explicitly playing the race card. The contradictory comments were made repeatedly and in close proximity. Some day Chris ought to look at the tapes of his shows so that he can see how unhinged he can be. Thank goodness for the sanity of Craig Crawford who refused to buy into the gender card meme and futilely pointed out how wildly in variance were the host's comments about the woman, on one hand, and the black, on the other.
I am offended by neither Barack's oratorical connection with Southern black church goers or Hillary's pride in her alma mater and the alumnaes' collective struggle against the glass ceiling. Face it folks, politicians will work to solidify their demographic as well as their geographic base. I see no one criticizing Bill Richardson for mentioning his Hispanic heritage.JFK benefited from his Irish roots and a Catholic vote energized by past predjudice.
I will be happy when we get to start counting votes and the pundits take a less ascendant role in the electoral process.

19. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...what are you talking about???
Hillary's problem is not "gender" but honesty. She's not being "picked on" because "she's a woman". Her problems are entirely of her own making for being unable to give straight answers to simple questions.

It's not a "pile-on" it's too much parsing that is the problem.

25. believe it, she's being picked on cause she's a woman and front runner

you know, a lot of men think she should be home in the kitchen. especially the religiously insane ones.

they will positively go to pieces if she wins and holds the highest POWER

POWER wears the white businessman's suit

It needs a 'what not to wear' treatment

The rules about taking pride in your gender and/or race have changed?? Or do you mean something else?

23. The other way round, I think.
Racism and sexism are no longer acceptable, and as a direct result it's possible for people who aren't white males to become "serious players".

Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 07:25 AM by polichick
As white males have done forever ~ and as Obama did last week and Hillary did at Wellesley? Seems hypocritical on the part of those white male talking heads to go off about something they have done throughout our history, and still do. That kind of boys' club talk is not something of the past ~ Chris Matthews and Tucker Carlson do it on their show every day. And it's a sad fact that most of the political shows are still hosted by white males ~ so for them to whine about Hillary's comradery at her school or Obama's preacher-like event is truly absurd.
