Sen. Biden on target with warning about Iran policy
It is perhaps a sign of the political times that Rep. Dennis Kucinich's admission that he has seen an unidentified flying object gets wider press coverage than Sen. Joseph Biden's warning about the Bush administration's saber rattling with regard to Iran.

snip

As Sen. Biden said during the debate, the mere suggestion by the Bush administration of an invasion or an air attack on Iran's nuclear facilities is solidifying many Iranians, even those opposed to the government, against the United States.

In addition, the idea of American troops being in another Islamic country has given Muslim extremists around the world one more reason to preach hatred of the U.S.

Pakistan

Biden was right in his contention that Pakistan, which is America's chief ally in the war on global terrorism, is of greater concern than Iran because it possesses nuclear weapons and Islamic militants are fanning the flames of political discontent.

snip

"Ratcheting up tension with Iran plays right into President Ahmadinejad's hands," he said a day before the debate. "It allows him to distract the Iranian people from the terrible failure of his leadership. And it keeps oil prices high, which just lines the pockets of Iran's government. It's hard to think of a more self-defeating policy."

1. The message is all the more important after today.
Pakistan is under state of emergency. Looks like a Musharraf power-grab and there WILL be resistance.

18. Yes, it is
and it scares me how superficial and gullible our society has become. We live in a dangerous world and we really need competent and intelligent people in charge. Meanwhile, prominent and respected journalist as asking a presidential candidate about UFO sightings!

20. This post of yours my friend tsegat01 is something I think about daily.
It's what scares me and depresses me most. Americans have become so stupid. I grew up taking our intelligence for granted, as if we'd always catch ourselves before we wandered off too far into something detrimental to our nation. The impeachment of Clinton and subsequent election of Bush has popped a gaping hole in that belief. We don't seem to learn from our mistakes. We just seem to keep wandering further and further into that something detrimental.

Much of the recent (recent as in the last 10 years) down slide is due to the Repubs and their supporters, but not entirely. I see much of the same problems with them in Democrats, close-mindedness, what's in it for me, and a lack of objectivity. The main difference is ideology. But there's one other difference, at least I'm choosing to believe there is, and that is that the Democratic Party tends to attract the thinkers, people who are more apt to take their intelligence seriously and find objectivity to be something worth striving for (like you). I'm hoping that the way the presidential election evolves will help restore my faith in the American public. And let me be clear, I don't consider myself to be particularly clever. Actually, it's more that I expect people to be smarter than me and when I find myself understanding things better and more objectively than the majority, it makes me worry. I state that both in jest and actually quite seriously.

22. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about
I can't blame our incompetent leaders for everything. They do what we LET them do. I fear sometimes, that people will have to be pounded down in the ground before they wake up and realize what we are losing. What scares me more than ignorant right-wingers, is the apathy of seemingly reasonable people. They don't seem to have the good sense to care about what is going on and I fear they won't care until it really hits home personally.

7. Biden is the only candidate running who instills in me enough confidence...
to where I would trust our president to do the right thing and not worry. That is, of course, if he were president.

23. Enough confidence that you don't have to jump up
every morning to check the news and hope we aren't in the midst of World War III. I want to be interested in politics and current events, not obsessed with them.

9. I'm really hoping Biden will be asked about these developments in Pakistan -
I trust that what he says will be an accurate and truthful comment.

10. What else Biden is right about is - the next President will have NO margin for error - there will be
no time for on the job training.

He is so right. The next President is going to have to possess the ability to make on the spot decisions,
Things are so f*ed up all over.

11. No margin of error
This is scarily true. And IMHO it disqualifies Obama and Edwards. Clinton is disqualified for other reasons. This is no 1992 where a talented and very smart newcomer can do just fine. The whole damn world, not to mention the country, is an explosive mess.

19. And its not just a political slogan
Those of us who are aware of the global issues we face, know this is the truth. By the time the next president takes office, god knows how much worse it will be. I don't want to gamble with the future of civilization.
